One of Disney’s most popular thrill rides, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster has been getting Guests to an Aerosmith concert via a “super stretch” limo since 1999, but recent discussions have brought up the possibility of a retheme for the hit attraction.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s Current Refurbishment
Guests with plans to visit Disney’s Hollywood Studios may be disappointed to learn that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is currently closed for a refurbishment that is set to last into the summer. As far as what’s officially been confirmed by Disney, this year’s refurbishment will only include regular maintenance on the attraction as a retheme has not been announced.
Disney’s official website notes the refurbishment with the following update:
Beginning February 21, 2023, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will be temporarily closed for refurbishment. This rocktastic attraction will resume its super-stretch limo rides in summer 2023.

Is a Retheme Coming?
As far as a retheme for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, we’ve already noted that Disney has confirmed nothing of the sort, but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. Recently, Disney fans have been sharing thoughts on whether or not Powerline from A Goofy Movie (1995) could be the musical artist to finally retheme the Sunset Boulevard attraction, with this idea only growing in popularity since Max as Powerline debuted in the Park as a character meet and greet.
The latest rumor of which band could retheme Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster actually came out of a recent discussion with Ken Marino, one of the actors who appeared in the current preshow for the attraction. Marino spoke on the March 2, 2023 episode of Office Hours Live where he mentioned that Queen would be taking over the roller coaster. Twitter user @AliciaStella shared a clip of the show below:
On today’s episode of Office Hours Live, Ken Marino, who appeared in the preshow for Rockin’ Roller Coaster, claims Queen will be replacing Aerosmith. (This is not confirmed by Disney.)

Marino’s comments on Queen replacing Aerosmith on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster are certainly a rumor where Disney has yet to comment on the claim. After the interview began circulating, the actor also went on to note on his own Twitter account that he does not know what could be changing on the ride.
Other rumors have swirled around the thought that Aerosmith could be replaced, whether it be simply time for something new to come to Hollywood Studios or for a more specific reason like Disney attempting to distance its brand from Steven Tyler’s assault allegations.
And, while a similar Marvel attraction is not possible in Florida, it is worth noting that the only other Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster attraction at another Disney Park has already been replaced. The coaster previously operated at the Walt Disney Studios Park at the Disneyland Paris Resort, but it was replaced by Avengers Assemble: Flight Force as part of the new Avengers Campus last year.
For now, we at Disney Tips will continue to monitor updates to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster throughout its upcoming refurbishment, and will report back with more information as it is available.
