COVID-19-related closures and restrictions have been impacting Disney Parks and Resorts (along with the rest of the world) since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.
While many of the pandemic-era restrictions have since been lifted from Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resort (including mask requirements, temperature checks, and social distancing), some protocols introduced during this time have remained, like restrictions on Park Hopping and the theme park reservation system.

Unfortunately, for one Disney Park, staying open this late in the pandemic has proved to be quite the challenge as restrictions from the local government continue to shut down theme park and other non-essential business operations.
Shanghai Disneyland was forced to close once again only last week when COVID-19 restrictions returned to the region alongside a series of protests against the recurring forced lockdowns and censorship under China’s Communist Party. The Park had already been closed from October 31-November 25, 2022, only to reopen for just four days and close once again (then indefinitely) on November 29, 2022.

As other Disney Parks around the world have continued to bring back pre-pandemic offerings, including long-closed restaurants and shops, entertainment, and more, Shanghai Disney has remained set without new enhancements for some time now.
No further closures are planned at the moment for Shanghai Disneyland (or other Disney theme parks); however, we will continue to monitor the tension between locals and the government in and around Shanghai, as well as changes to COVID-19 restrictions that could come with the potential for future closures.
