Magic Kingdom Park to Close Early in the New Year

Guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort often have plenty of time to experience the theme parks, water parks, Disney Springs, and hotels. There are even opportunities to spend some extra time in Disney Parks when factoring in Resort perks like early entry, which allows Guests staying at any Disney Resort to enter each Park a half hour earlier than day-Guests, and Extended Evening Hours, which offer Guests of Disney Deluxe Resorts additional Park time in the evenings.

Even with plenty of time in the Parks, Guests’ access remains subject to the infamous theme park reservation system, and restrictions on Park Hopping. Thankfully these two logistics cover most of what Guests need to worry about when it comes to planning time in the Parks, but early closures can sometimes occur as well.

Typically early closures at Disney Parks are the result of special events. During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party for instance, the Magic Kingdom closes at 6:00 p.m. for Guests who do not hold a special event ticket.

Private events can also shut down a Disney Park, as is the case with Cast Member exclusive offerings like EARidescent Evenings earlier this year, or private events booked by Guests (often corporate events or weddings.)

If you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World this January, you will want to make note of one early closure scheduled for the Magic Kingdom. This Disney Park is set to close at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

With no public special events planned for the Park that evening, it is likely that this early closure is for a private event. As such, you may want to plan another day to visit the Magic Kingdom during your January 2023 trip. (Conversely, days when the Magic Kingdom closes early typically have lower crowd levels. While the Magic Kingdom remains open until 10:00 p.m. the rest of that week, you may find significantly fewer people in the Park with the early closure.

The early closure is currently noted on the Park hours calendar on Disney’s official website and in the My Disney Experience app. As always, we recommend confirming Park hours with the official app or website as you plan your trip, especially while theme park reservations continue to be required.
