Cara Dune may never return to live-action Star Wars, but that doesn’t mean she has no place in the faraway galaxy. Since her last appearance in The Mandalorian Season 2, the character has completely vanished from canon, not due to storytelling reasons, but because of the fallout surrounding actress Gina Carano, who was fired by Lucasfilm in 2021.
Since then, Lucasfilm has moved forward without her. Rangers of the New Republic, a spinoff series expected to have been built around Dune, was shelved that year.
Animated projects like The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, and Tales of the Empire have spotlighted dozens of characters across the Star Wars timeline, but Dune remains entirely absent. As such, her storyline, once brimming with potential, has been left untouched.

Cara Dune’s Appearances Outside The Mandalorian
She’s also never shown up in Disney Parks as a character, either, despite other Mandalorian regulars like Din Djarin and Grogu making appearances. For a major character from one of Disney+’s flagship shows, her absence seems as conspicuous as it does intentional.
But Cara Dune hasn’t been erased completely. She was added as a playable character in “LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga” (2022) the year after Carano was fired (forming part of a wider DLC), and before that, she appeared in the mobile city-building game “Disney Magic Kingdoms” during a 2020 Mandalorian-themed event (the year before her firing).
Will Disney and Lucasfilm Ever Recast Cara Dune?
With live-action content presumably off the table for the character, Lucasfilm should consider other formats going forward. An animated miniseries or a more Mandalorian-focused video game would allow the character to return without reigniting the controversies tied to Carano (although the truth is, we want her back, but there’s clearly too much bad blood between her and Disney).
Recasting Cara Dune in animation wouldn’t be out of the ordinary—Lucasfilm has done so countless times before.
Fans who have formed a deep connection with Cara Dune did so because she brought a different energy to the show—a fighter from the ground up, hardened but loyal, tough but tender. That kind of character deserves to have a space in the Star Wars universe, even if the original actress who brought her to life in the first place is unlikely to ever return.

No, other characters can be developed in the Star Wars World. Bad publicity, and poor conduct, is not where Disney should tread with a Family oriented entertainment.
Sad that some people cannot keep their comments to themselves and just enjoy the chance to work in films.
Recast,Yes. Its been done before ,even for scheduling issues for Andor, or when a actor dies (HarryPotter) and the work continues. What I thnk is Lost is she,Cara Dune, was a Female Clone trooper, that alone is a story I wanna see.
Cara should most definitely return! She was a great character in the series and it honestly hasn’t been the same since her “write out”. Gina Carano was wrongfully removed when others in the show had worse actions/statements with no repercussions.
Gina should return as Cara Dune in live action Star Wars.
Forgive and forget the comments not the actor
Gina Carano was one of the victims in my opinion of that stupid # cancle culture. There ware more who did worse and are still in the game. Even Ray Park was cancled for a ehile and returned to in a cameo as Darth Maul. Hope to see more of his Darth Maul and also hoping Gina can get another chance to come back. She did a great job with her Character and on screen.
