Disney World’s ‘Princess and the Frog’ Ride Suffers Another Error

Nearly two years after Tiana’s Bayou Adventure debuted at Magic Kingdom Park, guests are still finding things to scrutinize. The latest discovery has Disney Parks fans split over whether it’s a storytelling blunder or a moment of unexpected historical depth at Walt Disney World Resort.

From Splash Mountain to the Bayou

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaced Splash Mountain at both Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland Park in 2024, retiring the imagery of the controversial and now-banned Song of the South (1946) in favor of The Princess and the Frog (2009).

Set after the events of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film, the log flume ride follows Princess Tiana (Anika Noni-Rose), Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley), and Mama Odie (Jenifer Lewis) as they assemble a crew of musicians for a bayou celebration. The attraction also expands Tiana’s story beyond her restaurant, establishing that she now runs an entire food co-op called Tiana’s Foods.

Caught in the Queue

The latest criticism came from a Reddit user who had time on their hands in the Walt Disney World Resort queue. u/EnriqueLaser posted photos of two decorative pieces side by side — a French-language newspaper and a photograph of Tiana’s father — and flagged what appeared to be a direct contradiction between them.

The newspaper describes the medal he received as a posthumous honor. The photograph shows him accepting it in person.

“Only noticed it because we were stuck waiting,” the guest wrote. “Decided to actually read the art they put up. Level of detail and creativity the Disney imagineers put into the spaces around the queue is awesome.”

Some Disney Parks fans cheered the eagle-eyed guest on.

“It says at the bottom of the picture that he is being presented with that medal,” u/CountofZen replied. “Very good catch, OP.”

The Case for Imagineering

Other commenters weren’t so quick to declare it an error, pointing to the specific military decoration involved — the French Croix de Guerre — and its documented history of being awarded multiple times to the same recipient.

“So while I usually enjoy seeing little errors and easter eggs like this—a little bit of googling has informed me that the Croix de Guerre or war cross was often awarded multiple times for different actions, could be awarded as a group or individually, and had different forms for different meanings (i.e. different types of stars that denote different levels of valor),” u/fishofhappiness explained. “It would be entirely possible to be awarded this medal multiple times, and uniform regulation from the time even stated that multiple of war crosses could be worn at once.”

“The Harlem Hellfighters received a unit Croix de Guerre with silver star for their 191 days on the front line which was a record for US units,” said u/NowMuseumNowYouDont. “After that 171 members received an individual CdG for heroism. So it’s possible the photo is him with his fellows receiving the unit CdG and then the article is about him receiving an individual one after his passing for heroism.”

Walt Disney World Resort has made no public comment on the queue detail or the ongoing discussion surrounding it.
