Actor Tim Curry has died at the age of 80, ending an entertainment career that stretched from the London stage to Hollywood films, Disney productions, animation, and the Star Wars universe. TMZ first reported that Curry died late Tuesday night, August 25, at his Los Angeles home; the report was subsequently followed by major entertainment and news outlets, including Variety. At publication time, a cause of death had not been publicly announced.
For Disney audiences, Curry leaves behind considerably more than his instantly recognizable performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Curry was born April 19, 1946, in Cheshire, England, according to his official biography. His professional stage career took off in the late 1960s, and he eventually originated Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show before bringing the character to movie screens.

Released February 16, 1996, the Brian Henson-directed film transformed Robert Louis Stevenson’s adventure into a musical Muppet production, with Curry playing the charismatic pirate opposite Kermit the Frog, Gonzo, Rizzo, and a young Kevin Bishop.

Curry Also Became Emperor Palpatine in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’
Later in his career, Curry entered another franchise now closely associated with Disney. He became the voice of Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious in Star Wars: The Clone Wars following the death of actor Ian Abercrombie.
Curry voiced the character during the animated series’ later episodes, adding one of entertainment’s most famous villains to a résumé already filled with memorable antagonists.
