Tips & Tricks for Enjoying Walt Disney World with Grandparents

Walt Disney World is truly a place for people of all ages. Many people dream of going on a family Disney vacation. It doesn’t matter what generation you are, you will have a wonderful time. Here are some tips and tricks for going to Walt Disney World with your grandparents or as a grandparent.

10. Take Your Time

If you’re going with a younger crowd you may want to run around and try to get everything in as quickly as you can. Remember, if you are there with your grandparents they may not have as much energy as you do, so take your time and really soak everything in. There’s no need to rush, just really enjoy the moments together. You don’t have to do everything.

9. Naps

When you’re walking around Walt Disney World it can be exhausting, so don’t be embarrassed if you have to go back to your resort and take a nap. If you stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel it is extra convenient, since there are buses and other forms of transportation that travel straight from the parks to your resort. Go back, get a power nap in, and then you’ll be refreshed and ready to keep enjoying that vacation.

8. Be Aware of Heat

Florida is known as the Sunshine State. That sun can be brutal, especially during the summer months. It is a good idea to make sure that you find lots of shade, wear sunscreen, and stay hydrated. There are also plenty of spots like gift shops that you can run into to get some much needed air conditioning. Just make sure you take it easy and not overheat yourself.

7. Benches

There are benches conveniently placed all around Walt Disney World property, so make sure you take advantage of these. There’s nothing wrong with having to stop and sit down for a little while. Plus if you’re sitting on a bench, it’s a great way to people watch.

6. Phone Charged

Make sure that everyone has a phone that is fully charged, or at least that you all have a way to charge your phones. Some parts of your group may want to take off for a little while to ride some thrill rides and you need to make sure that you can stay in contact to meet back up. There are lots of people at the parks, so it is easy to get lost and lose parts of your group. Just make sure you have communication going and know where you are meeting up with the rest of your party and at what time.

5. Family Rides

There are all kinds of different rides and attractions at Walt Disney World, and many of them are very calm. These are often called family rides. Your grandparents may want to stay away from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, but something along the lines of It’s a Small World or Na’vi River Journey may be more their speed. If you’re traveling with grandparents make sure to take the time to experience these rides with them so that they can be a part of the adventure.

4. Shows

Another way that you can include the whole family is by watching some of the shows. These are a good way to spend time together. The entire family, including the grandparents, can get involved and be entertained. You will all have fun together, since the shows are perfect for all ages.

3. Pool

If you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel you will have access to an incredible pool. It doesn’t matter which resort you are staying at, the pool should be part of your vacation. Sometimes you just want to slow down and relax outside by the pool and this is a great way for the grandparents to get involved too. Whether they want to go into the water or just relax poolside, it is a great spot for the entire family.

2. Meals Together

If you have spent the day doing an adrenaline rush at the parks then a great way to slow the day down a little bit is to have a nice relaxing meal as a family. Walt Disney World has plenty of unique and delicious dining options. There is something for everyone’s taste and dietary restrictions! Make sure you book your dining reservation in advance, because spaces fill up quickly and you want to be guaranteed a table.

1. Lots of Photos

When you are at the parks you want to make memories that will last a lifetime, so make sure you take as many photos as you can. Family photos are something that you can cherish forever, and you can hold your vacation close to your heart for the rest of your life. There are PhotoPass Photographers all around that make it simple for you to get the perfect shot. They can take your photo for you and then scan your MagicBand, then all of your photos will appear on the My Disney Experience App. Since almost everyone has a cell phone you will also want to take as many selfies with your family as you can. You’ll want these memories to last forever.
