Top 10 Disney Songs That Cheer Me Up On A Bad Day

We all have bad days. Thankfully, Walt Disney World is there even on the worst day to cheer us up with songs that inspire us, make us smile, and remind us that tomorrow’s another day.  From classic Disney tunes to newer hits, here are ten Disney songs guaranteed to turn that frown upside down.

10. The Bare Necessities

Sung by easy-going, endearing Baloo and the “man-cub” Mowgli, this is easily our favorite song from The Jungle Book.  It has happiness baked right in!  Baloo reminds us to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life.  You’ll feel your worries and strife melt away.

9. You’ve Got a Friend in Me

It may not be as upbeat or giggle-worthy as some of the other songs on this list, but this well-known song from Toy Story (it was used in the sequels as well) always makes us feel better on a bad day.  Simple and sweet, it’s a great reminder about the value and strength of friendship.  The song was an Academy Award nominee, and we can understand why!

8. Grim Grinning Ghosts

This theme song for the Haunted Mansion rides at Disney theme parks is one of our favorite songs to cheer us up on a bad day.  Equal parts spooky and light-hearted fun, it will immediately transport you to Disney World.  It’s bouncy and cheerful, with just the right amount of spookiness to completely distract you from your problems!

7. Just Around the Riverbend

While not as popular as “Colors of the Wind”, we’ve always had a soft spot for this beautiful tune from Pocahontas.  It’s lively and optimistic, and is guaranteed to make you forget your troubles and remember that there’s always something new and exciting waiting around the corner.

6. Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo

Sometimes on a bad day, you just need to listen to – and maybe belt out – some nonsensical lyrics to remind yourself not to take life too seriously.  This classic Disney song from Cinderella, sung by the Fairy Godmother, is just what the doctor ordered.  After all, just try singing “sala-gadoola-menchicka-boo-la” with a frown on your face!

5. Gaston

Sung by LeFou to cheer Gaston up after Belle rejected his marriage proposal, this hugely popular Disney tune never fails to make us grin.  It’s catchy, it’s hilarious, and it’s utterly ridiculous!  We dare you not to smile while listening to all the reasons that Gaston is “everyone’s favorite guy”.

4. Step in Time

We can’t think of a Disney song that gets more toes tapping than this contagiously fun tune from Mary Poppins.  Sung by Bert and his fellow chimney sweeps, this up-beat tune conjures up images of Dick Van Dyke performing deliciously daring dance moves on the rooftops of London.  And that’s something that will brighten anyone’s day!

3. Fixer Upper

Let it Go may be the breakaway hit from Frozen, but we like to sing this upbeat tune instead on a bad day.  Fixer Upper is just a fun song, and it helps that it features Kristoff’s irrepressible family of trolls, who are bound to make anyone smile.  Plus, it reminds us that no one is perfect, something that’s helpful to remember on a bad day!

2. Muppet Show Theme

Alright, this one may be a stretch, but since Disney now owns the Muppets, we’re pretty sure it counts.  And that’s a good thing, because we love to listen to this song.  It’s guaranteed to take you back to those classic Muppet Show days and have you singing along with Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzy and the rest of the Muppet gang.  So get ready, because it’s time to play the music!

1. Hakuna Matata

No feel-good Disney song list would be complete without this classic from the Lion King.  Hakuna Matata, as any Disney fan knows, means “no worries for the rest of your days”.  This song is like a musical ray of sunshine.  Plus, it brings to mind images of Timon, Pumba, and precocious baby Simba – and who can be grumpy thinking of these lovable characters?

About Jason Dick

Jason is a Disney addict. Walt Disney World trips are an annual occurrence that his partner has had to come to terms with. In between Disney trips, he spends his time running the theatre company he started in 2007. As Artistic Director, he picks musicals to bring to his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario Canada that have never been produced in the area. Traveling is definitely a passion and in addition to his trips to the happiest place on earth, he and his partner also travel the world, most recently to India and Nepal. A carnivore by nature, Jason loves the incredible amount of steakhouses Walt Disney World has to offer - they are always at the top of his list for each and every visit.
