Top 10 Walt Disney World Moments In Every Disney Fan’s Life

Disney World is full of magic and happiness for all who come. There are experiences in Disney World that have become nostalgic and iconic. They are rites of passage for Disney fans across the globe to experience and cross off of their Disney list so that they can experience what other Disney fans are talking about. Some of these you have to make an effort to do and others may just happen unprecedented. The most important thing is to take in every moment and enjoy them not as someone tells you to enjoy them but as your own special moment. Here is my list of top moments in every Disney fan’s life that I hope you have experienced or get to experience soon:

10. Dole Whip:

This really applies to many different Disney treats like the Mickey Premium Bar, churro, School Bread, etc. Most of us can remember the first time that we finally got to try these iconic treats, and the feeling that it gave us. Hopefully, it met all expectations and was as delicious as we always imagined that it would be. (I know mine were!) It is just as exciting to share this moment with others and experience your kids’, grandkids’, best friend’s kids’ (you get the idea) experiences. There is a reason that they are iconic treats for Disney fans, and it’s a great experience.

9. You (or your child) Meet the Height Requirements:

How many of you out there are anxiously waiting for that moment when you, or your children (grandchildren, friend’s children… you’ll notice these same rules apply for everything!) are tall enough to ride one of your most beloved rides. We did lots of those countdowns in our house for our oldest son. He just couldn’t wait to ride Everest, and I couldn’t wait to experience it with him. That feeling when the moment finally came and they told him he was tall enough to ride… unbelievable. He was the happiest he had ever been waiting in a Disney queue and absolutely loved it. The attractions at Disney are dear to so many hearts that they get talked up to family and friends, that you can’t help but get excited when someone new gets to experience the magic!

8. Character Breakfast:

I always recommend that everyone do this at least once, no matter how old you are or whether you have kids or not. The energy at a Disney character breakfast is out of this world. My husband and I still take the opportunity on days we don’t have the kids with us to enjoy a character breakfast just the two of us. The food is usually quite tasty with offerings that vary between locations (Ohana or Tusker House are our favorites), the characters seem to always go above and beyond to create extra magical moments and fun interactions and the positive, fun energy of the restaurant is amazing. If you haven’t tried one, this is definitely a Disney Fan milestone and you need to cross this one off of your list!

7. Disney Parties:

Disney knows how to put on a great party! The two notorious parties are Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. These parties are only offered during their respective seasons on select nights, with an additional cost of admission. These are events that Disney fans research and hope their plans align so that they can attend and experience the extra magic, and boy is it worth it! Some Disney fans start planning their costumes month in advance for the Halloween party (guilty again!), as guests get pretty into these events. Ask a Disney fan, and they will tell you! I don’t think I could pick a favorite between the two parties so the Disney fan in me says, go to both!

6. Magical Moment:

Disney is known for their magical moments. These aren’t just the ticketed events or the standard attractions, these are the added touches that no one can seem to create like Disney does. These are the moments like being selected as the family of the day, getting to hold hands with a character as they walk to their autograph location, being selected to be an extra or assistant in one of the shows. These are the events that you go home and tell everyone about and reminisce about when remembering your vacation. My family has been fortunate enough to have experienced these moments, and they only further cement the bond between Disney and Disney fans!

5. First Mickey Ears:

All of Disney fans have at least one pair of Mickey ears, right? These have become a staple souvenir for Disney fans. They are so much fun to wear in the parks, and have so many varieties that you are likely to find a pair inspired by your favorite character, movie or attraction. The real trouble for most fans becomes making a selection for which pair to buy!

4. Riding the Monorail:

Ah, the monorail! There is a feeling of “home” that Disney fans feel when they step on the monorail. It is huge part of the Disney nostalgia and fans can’t wait to experience the monorail for the first time. You take in the way it smells, the way it looks, which color monorail you are on and even the safety message a lot of fans know by heart. It is a Disney fan milestone, and rightfully so. I love riding the monorail early in the morning. It isn’t as crowded yet and the sun is rising over the resorts and Magic Kingdom. It’s just beautiful! Note: It’s OK to stay on the monorail and ride the full loop as many times as you like. We won’t judge!

3. Staying at a Disney Resort:

Most Disney fans will tell you that staying on property is the way to go, for many different reasons. The first time staying at a Disney resort is an extremely memorable experience. I remember when I was young, my first trip to Disney with my family, we stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter. It was an amazing experience and we loved everything about the resort. It set the bar pretty high and has made me never want to stay off property for our Disney vacations. Each resort is so unique and captures a different time and feel that the resorts are attractions in themselves and they are all so wonderful.

2. Disney Favorite Character:

So we all have a favorite. We have varying levels of obsession with our favorite characters (tattoos, collections, art, etc.) or maybe we just really enjoy one particular character. When a Disney fan finally meets that character, it is one of the most memorable experiences. There is something about being face to face with your favorite and seeing the mannerisms and characteristics that you love from their big screen appearance coming to life in front of you that builds the excitement and creates a truly magical experience. My first encounter with Donald Duck years ago, he proposed… I didn’t want Daisy to be upset, but it was really tempting!

1. Cinderella Castle:

So, I think we can all agree that the first glance down Main Street USA and locking sight on the castle is one of the most lasting memories that will still send chills down the spines of us Disney fans. I have seen that wonderful view many, many times and it doesn’t get any less special. There are different seasons, different times of day, different crowd levels, different weather… and in each experience the castle is equally as breathtaking and amazing. It is in that moment that you know exactly where you are standing that the Disney magic and happiness starts running through you. You might even have the urge to skip down Main Street (that could also maybe be the sugar you are inhaling from the delicious scents on Main Street, but I digress…). I hope you don’t have a very long wait until your date in front of the castle. Take it all in and enjoy!

So, I am a little bit Disney sappy and a lot of these moments touch a soft place in my heart and are extra emotional for me, as I am sure that they are for a lot of you out there. If you haven’t experienced these for yourself, I hope that you get the opportunity to do so. I think that you will find that each one were worth their mention on this list and will give you and your family great memories for years to come. How many of these have you already completed?

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
