Top 5 Recreation Activities At Walt Disney World

There is so much more to Walt Disney World Resort than just the parks and even just the resorts, themselves. The recreation activities that are available on property are amazing and allow you to have exciting experiences outside of the parks with your family, too. Here are the top 5 recreation activities at Walt Disney World:

5. Pool parties and activities

Each of the resorts offer pool parties with various activities throughout the day, every single day. You can play trivia, bingo, races, pool toy games and various other party games with the other resort guests, all lead by energetic cast members who are there to help make sure that you and your family have an amazing time while you relax in the pool! Be sure to plan a pool day or at least an afternoon during your trip so that you can enjoy the fun! The pools at the Walt Disney World resorts are amazing, and some are even almost like mini-waterparks in their own right, so don’t miss it!

4. Resort campfires (especially Fort Wilderness)

Almost every night at most resorts, the resort hosts a campfire followed by an outdoor movie (weather depending). This is a great time to roast marshmallows (supplies available for purchase) and enjoy a relaxing time under the stars with your family! It is so much fun and a great activity right at your resort that many people may not realize that it is even there since many travelers seem to focus on park life rather than resort life. If you venture over to Fort Wilderness, which you DO NOT have to be a guest there to do, you can experience the Chip & Dale Campfire Sing-A-Long where you can roast marshmallows and enjoy singing campfire favorites, dancing and having fun with our favorite chipmunks. It is a great time and you will definitely want to save a night to enjoy it with your family!

3. Carriage ride

Love the idea of a horse-drawn carriage? Boy, do we feel the same way! You can reserve a carriage ride at Fort Wilderness Resort and Port Orleans – Riverside. The rides take you on a stroll through the resort and are romantic for a date or fun for the whole family. During the holidays you can book a Sleigh Ride at Fort Wilderness where you get a festive version of the ride. If you don’t mind sharing with others, you can also take the wagon ride at Fort Wilderness, which is also great fun! It’s another way to explore more of what Disney World has to offer.

2. Rent a surrey bike

You can rent various bikes at the Walt Disney World resort, but the surrey bikes are the most fun. You can pedal around the resort and trails with your family. It’s a great way to explore, and get a little exercise while getting a break from all the walking! You will likely see and experience things around the resorts that you may not otherwise experience if you didn’t check out the trails and do more exploring outside of the parks.

1. Boat and watercraft rentals

You are able to rent various sizes and types of motorized boats and several of the resorts across Walt Disney World resort. You can take the boats to go fishing, go skiing or just explore the waters and lakes around the property. You can pick up food and have a picnic on the boat and enjoy a relaxing time on the water. You can even rent canoes to paddle around the waters at certain resorts. Be sure to check out the different boat types and packages to have the experience that meets your needs. It is another great way to see more of the grounds (and waters) and do something a little different than just the parks on your Disney vacation.

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
