Long before Disneyland Resort transformed its version of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror into Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, one Disney Park guest discovered what it’s like when guests “exceed the [ride’s] limit.”
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror opened at Disney California Adventure Park in 2004, following the original at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. In 2017, Disneyland Resort shuttered its original version of the drop ride and rethemed it to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!.
This reimagining allowed Walt Disney Imagineers to retrofit the attraction into the new Avengers Campus area of Disney California Adventure Park. Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris Resort still operate their original versions of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Although Disneyland Resort fans were apprehensive about the Mission: BREAKOUT!, most grew to love the Marvel retheme. But one nostalgic Disney Parks fan recently shared their experience on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror long before its closure.
In response to a question about getting stuck on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Walt Disney World Resort, Redditor u/Dis-Ducks-Fan-1130 reminisced about an incident on the Disneyland Resort version many years ago.

“Was on Tower of Terror in DCA and they stopped the ride during the drop sequence because their system got an alert that the force on one of the seatbelts exceeded the limit,” the Disney Park guest recalled.
When the alert popped up, Disney cast members immediately removed the ride vehicle from the track and evacuated guests.
“They brought the vehicle back to the unload dock, under control, and got us off,” the guest said.

Luckily, the technical issue only impacted one of the ride vehicles, allowing guests to get “back on another elevator.”
If a technical issue interrupts your ride at Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort, stay seated and don’t tamper with safety restraints. Await Disney cast members’ instructions.
