What Happens if Tropical Storm Nicole Cancels Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party?

Hurricane season is still in full swing, and the latest forecasts show subtropical storm Nicole gearing up to make landfall on Florida, potentially as a hurricane.

The storm could include wind gusts of up to 65 MPH by the time it makes landfall, likely this Thursday, November 10, 2022. As a result, locations across Central Florida, including the Orlando International Airport are gearing up for closures ahead of the storm.

As of this writing, select experiences at Walt Disney World are set to close on Thursday, November 10, 2022, including the property’s miniature golf courses and water parks. If Disney does eventually announce a closure of its theme parks, all special events planned will be canceled along with them.

For Guests attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party this week, a closure of the theme parks due to severe weather patterns during Tropical Storm Nicole, could mean that their party event will be cancelled, too. With more than half of all event dates scheduled for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party already sold out, this could be a stressor for Guests weighing the risk of visiting Walt Disney World with the storm on the way.

If you have tickets to this Thursday’s Christmas Party in the Magic Kingdom, and the Parks do end up closing, you might still be able to attend. When a special event is forced to cancel due to weather, Guests are often able to move their tickets to a different event date.

The problem with this Guest service recovery (which we saw during Hurricane Ian with the closure of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party) is that if the remainder of the event is sold out, there will not be another date for you to attend. Thankfully Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party does still have some dates available, but they may not be when you are able to visit the Parks if you are traveling from out of state.

The next available date for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is November 29, with additional availability December 1, 9, 11, 13, 15 ,and 16. If you are unable to make it to these dates, Disney will likely follow the protocol issued for Halloween Party ticket holders during Hurricane Ian, and will issue you a refund.

With dates selling out quickly, we remind our readers once again to purchase tickets asap if you plan on attending the Party later this holiday season. And, if you have already decided to postpone your travels due to the upcoming storm, you may want to reach out to Disney directly to see what options are available in changing up your trip.

While we hope this week’s special holiday event is not cancelled, we will continue to monitor updates out of Walt Disney World, and will report back if anything changes here on Disney Tips.
