We have heard reports that Disney has filed permits impacting the Epcot area at Walt Disney World. The permits were filed to the South Florida Water Management District and would allow Disney to “build and operate a new storm water management system on the northeast side of the theme park”, referring to Epcot. This includes the modification to a current canal that would in turn make “a more contiguous area for possible future changes to parking capacity and back of house areas”. Two dry retention areas would be constructed as part of the planning for future construction to also occur in the area. The permit is set to expire in June 2022, so we aren’t sure how soon this work would be expected to begin once approved.

We learned from announcements made at a D23 event in November 2016 that Epcot would start to receive a major transformation over the coming years. The park is in need of updating and new attractions incorporated into the theme for the park. The park is huge and the home to a few great festivals and events, but adding new attractions at the pavilions has much been much anticipated. There are also several abandoned buildings that aren’t currently being utilized that could also be transformed into attractions, shops, etc. within Epcot.
What do you think about possible changes coming to Epcot? What would you love to see built at the park in the coming years?
