This Magic Kingdom Construction Update Could Hint at the Return of a Beloved Attraction

Guests at Walt Disney World have been anxiously waiting for the opening of the newest attraction in the Magic Kingdom for several years now. While TRON Lightcycle / Run will still not be making its debut in Tomorrowland for some time, another attraction impacted by the construction of the new ride could be opening soon.

The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed for the duration of work on TRON Lightcycle / Run so far, much to the disappointment of fans of the classic Magic Kingdom attraction. Since the Walt Disney World Railroad trains run around the perimeter of the Magic Kingdom, trains would need to run behind Tomorrowland where work is taking place on the new attraction.

In the latest construction update, the tracks have been laid in Tomorrowland for the Walt Disney World Railroad. Twitter user @bioreconstruct shared a photo of the tracks now set alongside the new TRON attraction:

Over the summer, Cast Members began training on the Walt Disney World Railroad, which led Guests to speculate that the attraction would be reopening soon. Unfortunately, Disney has not yet confirmed an opening date for the Railroad, but we do have a rough opening timeframe for TRON to open.

While TRON Lightcycle / Power Run is expected to open to Guests in spring 2023, the adjacent Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. gift shop will likely open sooner (in fact, we have speculated that it could open as soon as next month!) and with any luck we will see the Walt Disney World Railroad return before the spring as well.

If you visit the Magic Kingdom while the Walt Disney World Railroad is still closed, be sure to stop by the Main Street station. Though subject to availability, Guests have been able to head upstairs for a close-up view of one of the trains in the station. And, there is some incredible artwork and artifacts inside the station that you might miss later on when crowds are nearby waiting to ride.

As always, we will continue to monitor updates on the construction of TRON Lightcycle / Run, and will report back soon with more news on the Walt Disney World Railroad as we have it here on Disney Tips.
