Last month, Guests were excited to discover that Disney’s website suddenly seemed to be selling the coveted Disney World Annual Pass again. Unfortunately, this was an error, much to the disappointment of loyal Disney Park fans who expressed their discontent on social media.
The has yet to make any announcements regarding the return of , although floridapolitics.com shares that they’ve heard from two Disney experts who have an opinion on the matter. They predict the company will not start selling memberships again until the economy worsens.
According to the experts, ‘Disney doesn’t have much of a reason to bring back the full slate of annual passes right now.’ Currently, Walt Disney World Resort is making ‘record revenue’ even though the Parks are operating with fewer Guests, according to Rick Munarriz, a Disney writer and analyst for The Motley Fool.
In addition, he says,” “Disney’s annual passes will come back when the global economy buckles to the point that visitors can no longer pay the cover charge for a Disney gated attraction.” This does not sit well with loyal Walt Disney World Annual Pass holders, especially those who have frequented the Parks for years using their exclusive membership.
This statement by Disney CEO Bob Chapek in 2020 may shed some light on Disney’s thinking. “Typically, someone who travels and stays for five days to seven days is marginally more valuable to the business than someone who comes in on an Annual Pass and stays a day or two and consumes less merchandise and food and beverage,”
In the past, fans have seen the Resorts as magical places where they were welcome and appreciated. Now, due to leadership changes, many Guests are starting to see Disney the way the corporate executives do, as a business.
It’s sad to see how times have changed when it comes to a beloved . We will keep you posted as soon as we hear that have returned to .
