As of late, Disney has been making some unwelcome changes in the form of sign removals across Walt Disney World Resort. Guests have been reeling from the recent loss of a couple of iconic billboards, wondering what Disney’s reasoning is in removing such nostalgic pieces.
It all started with the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Billboard, which is one of the first things Guests see upon arriving at Walt Disney World Resort. We’re not sure if Disney was aware of just how emotional their loyal fans would get about the removal of this iconic sign.
Disney Park Guests immediately took to social media, expressing sadness over the sudden move. The billboard advertised one of Disney World’s most popular rides and included an animated elevator inspired by the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction.

Next came news that Walt Disney World Resort would remove their iconic welcome sign, completely ripping Mickey and Minnie off of the display. This nostalgic piece of Disney history famously sits at the corner of SR 535 and Hotel Plaza Boulevard.
Now, a recent photo shared on Twitter by ParkTwister, has Disney fans nervous that yet another meaningful sign will be removed from Walt Disney World Resort. The billboard in question is known as the DVC (Disney Vacation Club) sign.
Just a refurb and some fresh paint. This sign is not going anywhere. https://t.co/PmTEUvYkuN

Featuring classic Disney characters Pluto and Goofy, the sign has recently been seen covered in scaffolding, leading Guests to believe that it may be next on Walt Disney World’s demolition list. Scott Gustin put these rumors to rest with a tweet confirming that the construction is “Just a refurb and some fresh paint. The sign is not going anywhere.”
Although no official statement has been made by Disney on the future of the billboard, we hope this is, in fact, just a refurbishment rather than a complete demolition. As always, we will keep you posted if further news comes in!
