The Walt Disney Company recently announced the release date of the long-awaited thrill ride, TRON Lightcycle Run. So far, any marketing has described this attraction as the “ultimate race” that pushes the limits. But how thrilling will this high-speed adventure really be?
So far, we know that TRON Lightcycle Run will require Guests to stow loose articles inside nearby lockers. This is groundbreaking for Walt Disney World Resort. Between four different Disney Parks and a handful of varying thrill rides, requiring loose articles to be safely stored in lockers has never been a requirement at Walt Disney World.
This new requirement, coupled with the attraction’s marketing, has fans asking the question: Will TRON Lightcycle Run be the fastest ride in Walt Disney World?
The attraction’s official page on the Walt Disney World website states that “TRON Lightcycle / Run will be one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world.” However, it doesn’t disclose anything other than that.
Upon looking up the speed of the TRON Lightcycle Power Run in Shanghai Disneyland Park, we’ve found that its max speed is 59 miles per hour, so we can assume the Orlando version will be the same speed.
In Magic Kingdom, the Barnstormer’s max speed is 25 mph, Space Mountain’s max speed is 27 mph, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train’s max speed is 34 mph, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad’s max speed is 36 mph, and Splash Mountain’s max speed is 39 mph.
In Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain’s max speed is 50 mph.
In Hollywood Studios, Slinky Dog Dash’s max speed is 40 mph, and the max speed of the Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is 57 mph.
Finally, in EPCOT, the max speed of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is 60 mph.
In conclusion: based on the information that’s currently available, Magic Kingdom’s upcoming coaster, TRON Lightcycle Run, will not be the fastest thrill ride in Walt Disney World. That said, it will be the fastest thrill ride in Magic Kingdom!
