Fans of Disney’s Snow White are eagerly anticipating the upcoming live-action adaptation of the classic, but not everyone is excited about it.

The movie, which is set for release in 2024 and is co-written by Barbie director/writer Greta Gerwig and The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, does not currently have a trailer.

According to Rachel Zegler, who will portray Snow White in the movie alongside Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the character was changed to be “more independent.”

Disney's David Hand

Disney

The son of David Hand, one of the co-directors of the 1937 animated version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, criticized the new film for lacking “respect” for the original in a recent interview with The Telegraph.

He told the new outlet: “It’s a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it.” He referred to it as a “disgrace” that the live-action adaptation is “trying to do something new with something that was such a great success earlier.”

“Their ideas are simply so extreme right now. They alter the narratives and the characters’ way of thinking. They’re inventing brand-new woke concepts, and I simply don’t buy any of that,” Hand said.

I find what they may have done with some of these old films to be somewhat offensive. There is no regard for what my father and Disney accomplished. He and Walt would likely be twisting in their graves, in my opinion.

Rachel Zegler, 22, the new show’s Snow White, pushed backing explaining how the new film will vary from the original.

“I’ll simply say it: most of my character doesn’t work for today’s audience, she declared at the time. “We went really deep into fixing and transforming Snow White into a contemporary woman.”

The West Side Story actress claimed that the goal of the project was to “make a new version of the character.

“I believe she was 13 in the first cartoon, so we started there and said, ‘No, she’s 18 in this one.'” She has a little more independence,” Zegler said. She is also experiencing grief. We choose to go deeply into a lot of complex emotions, after all. And on top of all that, having a knowledge of what it’s like to be a teenager.

About Roy Jenks

Roy is the father of two boys who are obsessed with everything Disney. Roy also harbors a deep, dark secret he doesn’t like to share with everyone. He’s also a little obsessed and has been since he was a kid. The first movie he ever watched was "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs;" he’s seen "The Lion King" hundreds of times (sometimes even when his children aren’t around), and he’s seriously disappointed that his boys think "Tangled" is “too girly” for them. Naturally, his boys love Disney Parks, and he pretends he loves theme parks too. The reality is that he’s scared half to death by the rides. With two thrill-seeking youngsters to entertain, he’s become somewhat of an expert on Disney, their Parks, and movies… now he writes about it too.
