10 Essential Experiences You Must Have at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios

All of the attractions and experiences at Walt Disney World are great, but there are definitely essential experiences that you won’t want to miss.  This is especially true at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  Here are the top 10 essential experiences that you must experience when visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

10. Explore Toy Story Land

Toy Story Land is an immersive land within the park that lets guests experience what it would be like to shrink to the size of a toy and explore Andy’s backyard.  There are 3 attractions within the land that are all perfectly themed and a lot of fun.  These attractions are Alien Swirling Saucers, Slinky Dog Dash and Toy Story Mania.  There are themed shopping opportunities and a themed quick service dining location so guests can completely enjoy the life of a toy.

9. Enjoy a meal at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater is one of the most unique dining locations in all of Walt Disney World.  The tables at the location are designed like cars, which are parked in front of a huge screen where old sci-fi movie clips and drive-in commercials are played.  The huge dining room is designed to look like you are outside at a drive-in.  It is extremely fun and the food is delicious!

8. Drop in on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

This is a favorite attraction for many guests.  The story is that the Hollywood Tower Hotel was struck by lightning sending an elevator plummeting to the bottom.  The elevator is still in operation and taking guests for rides daily.  It is an awesome thrill ride and with the random ride sequence for the drops, you never experience the same way twice.  You should also make sure to experience this ride in the daytime as well as night since the experience is a little different each way.

7. Interact with the Citizens of Hollywood

The Citizens with Hollywood are the fun characters that roam the Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard area.  They dressed and act like they are from the golden age of Hollywood.  They play games and interact with guests throughout the day.  They are fun to take pictures with and a must-see when you visit the park.

6. Take in all of the Star Wars fun

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open at the park August 29, 2019.  It will be a completely immersive Star Wars themed land.  Until then, there are a variety of Star Wars experiences that guests can enjoy.  The Star Tours ride is extremely fun and offers a variety of different experiences depending on the random ride sequences.  You can also check out Star Wars Launch Bay where there are Star Wars character meet and greets, movie memorabilia displays, merchandise opportunities and more.  There are so many great Star Wars experiences at the park and you will definitely want to take the Star Wars fans in your family to check it out.  Definitely don’t miss out on the evening Star Wars show that is performed many nights with projections on the Chinese Theater.

5. Take pictures with Sorcerer Mickey (and other characters)

This is the only location at Walt Disney World where you can take pictures with Sorcerer Mickey, so you definitely don’t want to miss that.  There are also a variety of other great character meet and greets, like Minnie in her glamorous attire, Star Wars characters, Star Lord and Groot and other favorites.  If you enjoy character meet and greets, Hollywood Studios definitely had a lot of great opportunities.

4. Check out the exhibits at Walt Disney Presents

Walt Disney Presents is the location that was previously One Man’s Dream.  The area features a variety of exhibits that have models on display for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and other new project attractions.  There is also a meet and greet with Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc., too.  You can typically check out a video of Walt’s Life or a movie premier of one of the latest Disney films while you are there, too.

3. Mind your manners at 50’s Prime Time

50’s Prime Time is another unique dining location, unlike anywhere you have ever dined.  The theme for the restaurant is that you are dining at “Mom’s” house.  You are served by your different relatives.  You have to set the table as part of your chores to get your dinner.  You will also be reminded if you don’t use proper manners, too.  It is all in good fun and plays up the theme of the location.  You will get a kick out of all of the antics that go on!

2. Ride in a “super stretch limo” at Aerosmith’s Rock N’ Roller Coaster

This roller coaster is absolutely amazing!  You start the attraction by going from 0 to 60 mph in the matter of a few seconds.  Then it is nothing by loops and twists throughout the dark, indoor track.  All of this happens while Aerosmith music plays over speaks by your head, for the ultimate thrill experience.  Then you arrive at the red carpet debut of their show.  It is the ultimate thrill ride!

1. Sit in the front row for Fantasmic!

Well, really any seat in Fantasmic! is great, but we recommend sitting in one of the very front row spots at least once.  You may get a little bit of misting here and there from the water cannons, but it is worth it.  When you sit in the very front, you get a completely unblocked view.  You can see all of the characters in detail and wave to them as they pass by.  The show is my personal favorite at Walt Disney World and you will see why once you experience it!

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
