8 Things You’ll Love about Frontera Cocina at Walt Disney World

There are so many great dining locations within Walt Disney World and many of them are located in Disney Springs.  If you haven’t been to Frontera Cocina, then you definitely want to check out these 8 things that you’ll totally love about this location:

8. The atmosphere.

The vibe of the restaurant is very contemporary, especially for a Mexican-inspired dining location.  The colors are bright and there are clean lines with high ceilings.  I find it kind of simple, but I like that so that the food can take the center stage. The best part of the atmosphere is outside on the terrace with amazing views of Disney Springs.  This is probably the best spot to sit on a day that isn’t too hot or maybe for an evening hangout!

7. Celebrity Chef Bayless created the restaurant.

This is definitely a special dining location for many reasons, but one is that Check Rick Bayless is the creator of the restaurant and menu.  He is a six-time James Beard Foundation winner and he is also known for winning Top Chef Masters, a show aired on Bravo. He also hosted his own show on public television, “Mexico – One Plate at a Time” and has won awards for his show! He is an author and runs a few different restaurant locations. He definitely knows the culinary industry and delicious Mexican cooking, which shows in every detail within the restaurant!

6.  The weekday specials.

The location frequently offers drink specials so you can pop into the lounge for a drink to relax a little bit while enjoying your day in Disney Springs.  Current specials include: Tequila Tuesday, which offers $5 shots of Maestro Dobel Frontera Cocina Barrel and Wild Wednesday, which offers $6 shots of Gracias a Dios Espadin Mezcal.  There are a ton of delicious margaritas and other drinks available, too.

5. The amazing appetizer selections.

The chips and salsa isn’t free at this dining location, but it is definitely delicious! We love the Mango or the Bacon guacamole and chips, too! The Chipotle Chicken Flautas are also delicious, which are crispy chipotle chicken tortilla “flutes,” roasted tomatillo-avocado salsa, crema, Cotija cheese and  fresh herbs.

4. Discounts and Disney Dining Plan available.

If you are on the Disney Dining Plan and have table service entitlements, it will only cost 1 entitlement to dine at Frontera Cocina.  If you are a Walt Disney World Annual Passholder, Disney Vacation Club Member, Tables in Wonderland, etc. then be sure to ask about discounts that are available.  This is a location that accepts most of the typical dining discounts!

3. So many delicious entrees to choose from.

Be sure to come hungry as you are going to see a lot of great offerings that you will want to try.  The menu includes a variety of salads, tacos, tortas and other entrée selections. We love the Roasted Bone-In Short Rib which is a 12-hour slow-roasted bone-in short rib, roasted peanut mole, Cotija mashed potatoes, sautéed Swiss chard, crispy onions and toasted peanuts. The Carne Asada is also amazing with garlic and red chile-marinated Creekstone Natural Black Angus steak, black beans refritos with queso fresco, caramelized plantains with crema and Cotija cheese, tomatillo salsa and served with warm corn tortillas. You really can’t go wrong, no matter what you choose.

2. You may be able to get in without a reservation.

There are many restaurants at Walt Disney Word that are extremely difficult to get into if you don’t have an Advanced Dining Reservation.  While I always recommend having a reservation when you can, Frontera Cocina is a location where you may be able to get in without a reservation or too much of a wait.  If you don’t see a reservation available or you are in the Disney Springs area, it is definitely worth a stop by to see!  The location is open for lunch and dinner hours, so you have options to find a time to visit!

1. You will want to save room for dessert!

Be sure to save room for dessert, because Frontera Cocina has a few delicious options that are unique to the location.  My personal favorite is the Ancho Chile Chocolate Cake, which is a triple layer moist chocolate cake, ancho chile chocolate frosting, candied Tajin orange zest.  It is delicious!  There is also a delicious Coconut-Lime Cuatro Leches,  which is sponge cake soaked with four milks topped with whipped cream, toasted coconut, fresh blackberries, and lime zest.  Don’t forget that calories don’t count on vacation!

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
