Disney has added a new retail location next to one of its most recognizable attractions, signaling continued investment in a ride many fans once feared could be phased out.

On January 31, a small storefront opened just steps from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, replacing a former paper FastPass distribution area that had sat largely unused.

For years, the future of Tower of Terror outside the United States has prompted debate.

The closure of the ride at Disney California Adventure in 2017 — and its replacement with Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! — led some guests to wonder whether similar changes could come to other parks.

That concern has persisted, particularly as Disney continues to update older attractions with newer intellectual properties – and particularly as Paris’s version of the attraction sits on the outskirts of Avengers Campus, just like at California Adventure.

Instead of removing the ride or retheming the surrounding area, Disney has now built directly around it.

New Store Opens Beside Tower of Terror

The new shop debuted Saturday at Walt Disney Studios Park.

The space previously housed the park’s paper Fastpass kiosks, which became obsolete after Disney shifted to digital systems. The footprint has now been converted into a compact retail location positioned between the attraction and nearby walkways.

🚨On Saturday, January 31, 2026, a new shopping experience will open its doors a stone’s throw from The Twilight Zone Tower of Terrorā„¢ attraction. Designed by Walt Disney Imagineering Paris in collaboration with the Design & Delivery teams, this place will link the glamorous atmosphere of World Premiere Plaza and the plant universe of Adventure Way.šŸ›ļø

The store is not heavily themed to the ride itself. Instead, it adopts an old Hollywood look that matches the surrounding architecture. Decorative elements include flower displays and black-and-white photographs meant to evoke a 1930s-era storefront.

Former Walt Disney Imagineering executive Jim Shull praised the design on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Congratulations to the Disney #Imagineering team to deliver to guests a clever and appropriate design for the former fast pass facility,” he wrote. “Flower shops of this type were common in the Hollywood of the 1930s.”

Guest reactions online were mixed.

“Imagineering used to be the standard, now even Epic Universe has better shop theming,” one user wrote, sharing images of Disneyland Paris stores of times gone by. “We used to be a real country.”

Others questioned the interior.

“The outside is lovely and great, but the inside sucks,” another user wrote. “The sweets/merch is very out of place in that area and the random second hand decor doesnt match a flower shop or the era.”

Some focused on the size.

One said, “Lovely but damn small. Did we really need to limit it to the existing perimeter of the old Fastpass kiosks? Is DLP so desperate for savings?”

Another added, “If it were at least unique Tower of Terror candy.”

Even with criticism, the addition keeps the ride’s footprint intact and integrates it into the surrounding land rather than isolating it.

The park’s version of Tower of Terror already differs from its U.S. counterpart, featuring darker lighting, more intense drops, and three randomized storylines introduced in 2019 to make each ride cycle less predictable.

The ride sits among several established headliners at the park, including Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement ToquĆ©e de RĆ©my (which will soon reopen from a thorough refurbishment), Crush’s Coaster, RC Racer, and Avengers Assemble: Flight Force.

Opening Comes Ahead of Major Park Overhaul

The retail debut arrives as the park prepares for a broader transformation.

From March, Walt Disney Studios Park is set to be rebranded as Disney Adventure World – the culmination of a multi-year expansion that includes new lands, updated pathways, and additional entertainment.

The upcoming World of Frozen area will anchor the project, following similar versions at Hong Kong Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. A family attraction inspired by Tangled is also planned nearby, alongside landscaped gardens and a new promenade called Adventure Way.

At the far end of the expansion, Adventure Bay will host a nighttime show, Disney Cascade of Lights, combining fireworks, water screens, drone displays, and projections.

Within that larger redevelopment, the new store is a modest addition. However, it’s still enough to reopen old wounds for Disneyland Paris fans already unhappy with recent refurbishments and minimalist additions to the park.
