Toy Story spinoff, Lightyear (2022) recently made its way to theatres. In fact, it’s only been a little over a month since it came out, on June 17.
This is welcome news for Disney fans who have often found themselves waiting years for the release of some of their favorite titles from Disney’s infamous vault. We’ve got the Disney+ release date for the Space Ranger’s origin story, but first, let’s take a look at some of the incredible attractions inspired by this beloved character.
Both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort contain rides highlighting the spunky space toy. Although the attractions go by different names, they are very similar in their orientation.
Disneyland’s version, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, opened most recently on March 17, 2005, in Tomorrowland. Immediately popular for kids and adults alike, this interactive ride provides a fun competition for the whole family.
The attraction’s mission is simple, defeat Zurg and his robot minions! Guests maneuver their space vehicles through the dark ride using their blasters to hit designated targets.
At the end of the mission, participants tally up their scores to see who won! Walt Disney World’s version contains some differing details.
Opening in Magic Kingdom Park in 1998, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin provides blasters that are secured to the ride vehicle. Disneyland’s version offers movable blasters that Guests can pick up and aim at their targets.
Lightyear’s plot focuses on the human that inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy. Captain America (2011) himself, Chris Evans, voices the iconic Disney character, leaving some fans disgruntled that Tim Allen did not reprise his role.
After much explanation in the media, fans learned this was a logical choice, based on the fact that Chris Evans was playing the human Buzz, whereas Tim Allen was playing the toy.
They're back to finish the mission. 👨🚀😺 Check out our epic duo #Buzz and #Sox in #Lightyear, streaming August 3 only on #DisneyPlus. pic.twitter.com/sXJXNB7Ft0
