In a crowded theme park industry dominated by giants like Disney, one regional park in Tennessee has quietly risen to global prominence. Located in the scenic Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood has earned top honors as America’s favorite theme park for 2025, marking the third consecutive year it has surpassed even Disneyland in California and Disney World in Florida.

Since opening in 1986, Dollywood has evolved from a local attraction into a major destination. Co-founded by country music icon Dolly Parton alongside Herschend Family Entertainment, the park deeply reflects Parton’s Appalachian roots and her commitment to family-friendly entertainment. The park has become a beloved spot that balances thrilling rides with a warm sense of place and tradition.

Prestigious Accolades Highlight Dollywood’s Rise

Dollywood’s recent accolades from the National Amusement Park Historical Association (NAPHA) are especially notable given the group’s expertise. NAPHA members have collectively visited an average of 130 parks worldwide, including 13 or more in 2024 alone. Their vote named Dollywood the nation’s top park for the third year running. The park also placed second on NAPHA’s list of the most beautiful amusement parks, just behind Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Virginia. This ranking reflects Dollywood’s stunning grounds and its immersive setting in the Smoky Mountains.

The park’s honors extend beyond guest popularity. Dollywood dominated Newsweek Readers’ Choice Awards, particularly in the restaurant category. It was also named one of America’s Greatest Workplaces in the entertainment providers category—one of just three theme parks to receive that distinction.

A Focus on Employees and Experience

Susan Loveday, Vice President of Human Resources at Dollywood, stressed the importance of the park’s staff. “Dollywood’s hosts are what make this park special,” she said (via Knox News). “We always strive to ensure they receive the care and support they deserve so they can take care of our guests in a world-class way.” This dedication to employee wellbeing has helped foster a strong workplace culture, contributing to exceptional guest experiences.

Dollywood also received top marks on USA TODAY 10BEST lists, Forbes’ List of America’s Best Midsize Employers, USA Today’s Top Workplaces, and Newsweek’s Greatest Workplaces for Women and America’s Greatest Workplaces for Gen Z. To celebrate its 40th season, the park launched over 100 upgrades and changes, showing it continues to invest in innovation and quality.
