It seems that shoplifting may have grown to be a little bit bigger concern at Walt Disney World. We are getting reports from guests that anti-theft detectors with alarm systems have been installed at entry/exit points at some of the gift shops, and are expected to be added to many gift shops around all of Walt Disney World. There are also anti-theft tags added to a lot of merchandise that can only be removed by cast members. It is sad to think that shoplifting happens at a magical place like Walt Disney World, but no place is immune. The gift shops are laid out with multiple entry and exit points. They also have various turns, corners, displays, etc. which make it difficult for cast members to have line of sight for every guest that is in the store. Plus, with the large quantity of guests in the store at any one time, the cast members are way outnumbered, especially when many of them are helping and interacting with guests.

The added security measure will hopefully be a good thing. We don’t want thieves viewing Disney as a sitting target and causing our already high prices to increase in order to combat the losses from thieves. If you see anything shady, be sure to alert a Disney cast member. They will much appreciate the heads up and will take care of it. This is also a good reminder to protect your own belongings. Don’t bring a ton of cash or credit cards in the park with you. Try to minimize what you bring into the parks so that you can easily tote any items of value with you when you go on rides and such. We also recommend that you send your purchases to package pick-up or back to your resort. This will help keep them safe so that you don’t have to worry about them throughout the day. Be sure to keep receipts on your person, since you will need those to claim your packages or in the event that something you purchased goes missing. We have never really had any issues for our family, but even in the happiest place on Earth, you have to be careful and protect your belongings.
