Now that HBO has found its new Harry, Ron, and Hermione, the upcoming Harry Potter reboot is quickly taking shape. And while the series won’t begin filming until this summer, one key performance is already making waves in the Wizarding World community.
Arabella Stanton, the West End alum currently best known for having played Matilda on stage, who’s now set to portray Hermione Granger, is drawing early praise for her now-viral audition tape. Stanton was recently cast alongside Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter and Alastair Stout.
The clip, which appears to have originally surfaced on TikTok, shows Stanton channeling Hermione’s sharp wit and tightly wound nerves with surprising confidence. Though it’s unclear what the audition is actually for, it’s obvious that Stanton definitely has what it takes to become the perfect successor to Emma Watson, who played the character in all eight Harry Potter films.

One fan describes Stanton as having “the sassy know-it-all attitude” needed to play Hermione. Another praises “her way of speaking,” adding that “she’s perfect for the role.” One fan even compares her to Emma Watson, saying, “Almost sounds exactly like Emma.”
HBO is calling the upcoming Harry Potter television series a “decade-long” adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book saga. Each season will cover one book, beginning with Philosopher’s Stone and ending with Deathly Hallows.
