Freezing Temperatures to Shut Down Disney Park for Three Days

Walt Disney World may not be having a white Christmas, but Central Florida is certainly in for a very cold one!

Low temperatures over the holiday weekend are forecasted to be near freezing, with highs only in the 40s for most of Central Florida this Friday through Sunday, December 23-25, 2022. While there are plenty of ways to stay warm if it happens to be this chilly during your upcoming Disney vacation, there are select experiences that may shut down due to near-freezing temps.

In addition to outdoor dining patios and select swimming pools at Disney Resorts, Disney’s water parks always have the possibility of closing when the temperature gets too low. Currently, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park is already closed regardless of temperature as its annual refurbishment is underway with no reopening date confirmed thus far.

With Disney’s Blizzard Beach still open for the season, Disney’s official website has confirmed that the Park will close ahead of this weekend’s cooler temperatures. The Disney Park is currently open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but will be closed from Friday, December 23-Sunday, December 25, 2022, reopening on Monday, December 26.

Outside of this weekend when the Park is closed for weather, winter is actually a great time to visit Disney’s water parks (if you can handle the cold, that is) as they have significantly fewer crowds during the off-season, and you can often walk right onto the Park’s attractions without waiting in line.

Blizzard Beach reopened from its last refurbishment in November 2022, bringing with it a selection of new experiences including Frozen theming in Tike’s Peak, and seasonal sweets and treats. If the weather warms up after the holiday weekend, and you are looking to get away from the crowds at Walt Disney World this winter, you may want to add Blizzard Beach to your list!

Disney’s official description of Blizzard Beach reads:

Discover a flurry of fun at Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park at Walt Disney World Resort, including waterslides, raft rides, a lazy river and a one-acre wave pool.

Current operating hours for Blizzard Beach and all Walt Disney World theme parks and Disney Springs are listed in the My Disney Experience app, and on DisneyWorld.com. Happy holidays, and stay warm this weekend!
