Character dining is one of the most exciting experiences a family can have at the Walt Disney World Resort. Not only do Guests have the opportunity to meet several of their favorite characters without spending the time tracking them down out in the theme parks, but they can also enjoy a delicious, all-you-care-to-enjoy meal.

There are iconic character restaurants in all four Walt Disney World theme parks as well as throughout Disney Resorts, though some locations are still modified following changes made when they reopened.

One such restaurant has been a staple reservation to secure among fans of character dining for a number of years. And, we are excited to finally share the news that buffet dining is returning to one of our go-to character restaurants at Walt Disney World!

Tusker House Restaurant, located in Harambe Village in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park has been operating under a family-style model since it reopened from its closure earlier in the pandemic. Today, Disney confirmed that Tusker House will once again be returning to its classic buffet setup later this year.

According to Disney’s official website, the current family-style dining experience will continue at Tusker House through October 31, 2022, with the buffet returning for all reservations beginning on November 1, 2022.

Disney has not yet updated the menu online or on the My Disney Experience app to reflect the change back to the buffet, but we expect that many of the previous items will return. Tusker House was a very popular buffet for Guests in Animal Kingdom before the pandemic, and Disney does not usually change what is already working in that respect.

The family-style offering, while enjoyed by Guests, did not contain all of the menu items previously available on the buffet. And, some Guests prefer to make their own plates rather than have to ask their servers for more of a given item. (Conversely, some Guests have enjoyed the table-service alternative to buffet dining at Walt Disney World, but it seems this modification is being removed from any restaurants that still use it.)

If you have not yet dined at Tusker House, we highly recommend it! This location comes with the chance to meet Donald and friends (Mickey, Goofy, and Daisy) and it is a great way to try African-inspired cuisine along with some American fare so the buffet can please a wide variety of tastes.

Disney’s official description of Tusker House Restaurant reads:

Step inside this lively Harambe marketplace eatery and enjoy family-friendly surroundings. The plentiful family-style menu offers favorites for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

While you dine, snap a photo and tip your pith helmet to Donald Duck—suited up and ready for his next safari adventure—along with his Disney friends, as they travel throughout the dining rooms celebrating their latest expedition.

It’s a wild good time, every time!

Tusker House Restaurant is extremely popular, so be sure to make advanced dining reservations in the My Disney Experience app ahead of your visit. Enjoy!
