Tom Felton, best known for playing Draco Malfoy in the eight Harry Potter films, has confirmed that he’ll be reprising his role in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child later this year. Meanwhile, HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series has now revealed even more new cast members, including Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy.

Yes, two Malfoys. One, however, is currently facing criticism from trans rights activists.

Recently, while on the Tony Awards’ red carpet, Felton was asked by Variety about the ongoing controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling’s views on gender identity. When asked if her views affect his work, Felton admitted, “I can’t say it does. I’m not really that attuned to it.”

He added, “The only thing I always remind myself is that I’ve been lucky enough to travel the world… and I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter. She’s responsible for that. So I’m incredibly grateful.”

Other actors from the original film series, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, have publicly distanced themselves from Rowling’s views and expressed support for the transgender community in recent years. Unsurprisingly, though, Felton’s comments have sparked backlash online. Nevertheless, many fans are excited to see the actor reprise his role as Draco Malfoy in the upcoming Broadway production, having last played him 14 years ago.

Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series, following the main characters–including Draco Malfoy–19 years after the events of Deathly Hallows.

Meanwhile, HBO’s reboot, described as “a faithful adaptation” of the books, will cover all seven Harry Potter novels across seven seasons. Production is scheduled to begin this summer, with an HBO premiere expected sometime in 2026.

Felton will perform as Draco Malfoy in The Cursed Child from November 11, 2025, through March 22, 2026, at the Lyric Theatre in New York City.
