Lots of change is coming to the Walt Disney World Resort, and today’s Parks panel at the 2022 D23 Expo has been packed with breaking news fans need to know.
Following news of updates and expansions to Avengers Campus at the Disneyland Resort, and updates to iconic attractions at Walt Disney World, as well as a special returning nighttime spectacular, today’s panel revealed a major update coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Rumors have been swirling for years about the possibility of Zootopia (2016) coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, as the theme of the movie has always seemed like a logical addition to the Park. Today, Disney shared that Zootopia could actually have a presence at the Disney Park, and unfortunately for fans of DinoLand, U.S.A., this would mean changing an entire iconic land.
Details are limited so far, but today’s panel noted that early plans are in the works for Zootopia at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with all of the exotic locales showcased in the hit animated film being featured in the Park.
And that’s not all! Today’s panel also shared the news that Moana (2016) could also be finding a home at Animal Kingdom, with the film’s connection to nature being at the forefront as a perfect addition to the Park.
Attendees at today’s D23 panel were treated to early concept art for the reimagining of DinoLand, U.S.A. which featured nods to the various settings of Zootopia and the island settings showcased in Moana.
Attractions for both the Zootopia and Moana areas of the Park have not been shared, but early concept art from Disney shows Moana’s iconic wayfinding vessels alongside a Triceratop Spin-style spinner attraction likely inspired by the same sailing motif.
Disney has also not confirmed a closing date for DinoLand, U.S.A. as we know it today, so we will continue to monitor updates out of Animal Kingdom and will be back with more information as we have it here on DisneyTips.
