Disney’s Animal Kingdom continues to undergo phased changes as construction projects reshape several areas of the park. While major expansions remain years away, smaller operational updates are beginning to clarify how Disney plans to manage guest capacity in the interim.
One of the most immediate concerns involves dining. As multiple locations close permanently or temporarily, Disney is adjusting reopening timelines to avoid service gaps during busy travel periods.
Recent updates suggest one such reopening may occur earlier than expected.
Harambe Market, a quick-service restaurant located in the park’s Africa section, has been closed for several months. New information indicates the location may return ahead of its previously suggested timeline.
Harambe Market Reopening Timeline Comes Into Focus
Harambe Market closed on October 20, 2025, when Disney began a refurbishment tied to broader operational changes at Animal Kingdom. At the time, Disney confirmed the closure would extend into early 2026.

No reopening date was announced, leaving guests without a clear timeline. That changed when operating hours appeared, listing a March 1, 2026, reopening.
The posting marked the first public indication that construction may be nearing completion. A March reopening would return the location ahead of the spring break travel season.
New reporting suggests the reopening could happen earlier.
According to Scott Gustin, Disney plans to have Harambe Market operating before March. Gustin reports the restaurant is expected to be open when Restaurantosaurus reaches its final day of operation on February 1.
Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdom now has operating hours posted beginning March 1. However, it should open before March. From what I understand, Disney plans to have Harambe Market operating when Restaurantasaurus has its final day of operation on Feb. 1. pic.twitter.com/E5ePm3kOZR

If accurate, the timing would prevent Animal Kingdom from losing a major quick-service location without a replacement available.
Restaurantosaurus is scheduled to close permanently as Disney continues dismantling DinoLand U.S.A. to prepare for the Tropical Americas expansion.
The multi-year project will introduce attractions inspired by Encanto (2021) and Indiana Jones. Construction is expected to continue well beyond 2026.
Disney has not officially confirmed an accelerated reopening date for Harambe Market. Guests planning visits in late January or February are advised to monitor the My Disney Experience app or Disney World website for updates.
Changes to the Restaurant and Guest Response
Before closing, Harambe Market was known for offering menu options that differed from many other quick-service locations at Walt Disney World.
Items included a Chicken and Shrimp Rice Bowl, Chicken Caesar Salad, Beef and Lamb Kofta Pita, and a Mango-Passion Fruit Cheesecake.
The reopened version of Harambe Market is expected to feature a simplified menu focused on standard theme park offerings such as burgers and chicken strips.
The change has drawn criticism from some guests.

As one fan wrote, “The death of Harambe market is now complete. They kept dumbing the menu down until the inevitable.”
Others have described the update online as the “ultimate Animal Kingdom L,” citing disappointment over the loss of more distinctive food options.
Harambe Market has also been notable for its immersive design as well as its healthier snack options. The location is themed around a colonial-era train depot and includes a prominent water tower overlooking the seating area. The space is presented as an active marketplace supplied by a local locomotive, with counters designed to appear functional rather than decorative. Produce and goods are staged as if freshly delivered.
