Disney Launches Early Access Program That Excludes Locals

Hong Kong Disneyland is making a bold move this summer. In a decision that breaks from the company’s usual early access policies, the park will soon allow select guests to enter before official opening hours. The catch? The offer applies only to overseas visitors.

Unlike other Disney resorts where early entry is typically tied to hotel stays or VIP status, this new program targets international tourists exclusively.

Early access is nothing new in the Disney ecosystem. In Florida and California, Disney hotel guests are granted 30-minute early entry to all four Walt Disney World parks and both Disneyland Resort parks. Across the globe, Disneyland Paris offers Extra Magic Time—an hour of early entry—for its hotel guests, and Tokyo Disney Resort gives select hotel guests a 15-minute head start with its Happy Entry program.

Overseas Visitors Only

Now, Hong Kong Disneyland is taking early access in a different direction.

In partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the park is launching a limited-time initiative that invites 50 international guests per day to enjoy “Early Park Entry Passes.” Applications for the first round open on June 23 at 12:00 p.m. Hong Kong time, with access valid between June 28 and July 31. A second wave of the program will begin July 23, covering entry from August 1 through August 31.

The campaign is designed to attract more overseas guests during a landmark moment for the park. Those selected for early access can also take home a special memento: with any $100 merchandise purchase, guests are eligible to receive a 20th anniversary-themed postcard shipped free internationally. Redemption is available at two locations in the park—Emporium on Main Street, U.S.A., and Northern Delights in World of Frozen—through August 31.

This early entry perk is in addition to the existing Early Park Entry Pass, which is available to all guests – regardless of whether they’re a tourist or local – to pre-purchase for HK $199 ($25.35).

A 20th Anniversary with Global Reach

The rollout of this new access benefit comes just as Hong Kong Disneyland kicks off its 20th anniversary celebration. Starting June 28, the resort will debut a new castle stage show, Disney Friends Live: Party at the Castle!, and Friendtastic!, its largest-ever daytime parade featuring 11 floats and more than 100 performers. By night, the upgraded Momentous: Party in the Night Sky! will add drones and water effects to the already sprawling fireworks display.

The celebration extends into food, merchandise, and hotel offerings, with over 80 new menu items and more than 300 anniversary-themed products launching across the resort. Special hotel perks—including latte art, keepsake invitations, and craft activities—will run through June 27.

The park is also preparing for several major additions in the months ahead, including a Spider-Man attraction using a ride system similar to Tower of Terror and an original Pixar experience set between Toy Story Land and World of Frozen.

With attendance at a record high and profits returning after years in the red, Hong Kong Disneyland is doubling down on its global appeal. Whether this new early entry program becomes a lasting fixture—or a controversial footnote—may depend on how well it balances international enthusiasm with local expectations.
