The Disney Cruise Line fleet is back on the big blue! After lengthy closures and docked ships due to COVID-19, Disney fans are once again taking to the seas with one of the most prestigious companies in the cruise line industry. But, as cruise lines attempt to navigate the rough seas of COVID and the ever-changing policy updates, Disney’s latest change has some scratching their heads.

Disney Cruise Line announced a new policy change on August 15, 2022. The new policy states that effective September 2, 2022, Disney Cruise Line Guests ages 12 and older must be fully vaccinated to set sail with the cruise line. Previously, the COVID 19 vaccination policy was for Guests ages 5 and older (which is still effective through September 1, 2022).
The update comes on the heels of several major cruise lines dropping their vaccination requirements altogether for select sailings, including the Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, and Royal Caribbean.

Now, Disney fandom is left wondering why make the COVID 19 vaccine adjustment at all from 5+ to 12+ but leave the testing policy the same?
@ScottGustin took to social media to share the news, “New policy says Guests ages 12+ must be fully vaccinated (previously 5+). Testing policy remains the same. A weird change, imo. I expected them to modify the testing policy – but maybe that happens next? Strange.”
One comment notes, “Disney always has to be different. Zig when others zag.”
With another comment stating, “This doesn’t make a lick of sense.”
This could just be Disney’s way to take one step to keep up with the other cruise lines’ changes, even if it’s only shaving off 7 years for vaccination requirements.
We’re sure as Disney continues to follow the health and safety guidelines that work best for the Disney Guests and Disney Cruise Line Cast and Crew Members, we will continue to see updates to the vaccination and testing policy for COVID-19.
