Some Disney vacations begin with wide-eyed anticipation before the parks even open. Others take a turn inside the hotel room, shifting the focus from fireworks to far less welcome surprises.
Disney’s Value Resorts, including Disney’s Pop Century Resort, remain among the most frequently discussed on social media. Their bright theming, exterior-entry buildings, and high nightly occupancy mean guest experiences often appear quickly on TikTok and Reddit, creating real-time conversations about what visitors encounter during their stays – including cockroaches.
TikTok Video Shows Alleged Cockroach Issue at Pop Century Resort
A recent TikTok from user @janaelaird4 added new attention to Pop Century after she claimed her group returned to their room and allegedly found cockroaches inside. The video shows luggage being shaken out at night beside one of the resort’s pools.
“We stayed at Pop Century Sports Resort in Orlando Florida and found roaches crawling across the bed,” she wrote in the caption. Her video captures her party emptying their belongings outdoors rather than staying in the room.
@janaelaird4 We stayed at Pop Century Sports Resort in Orlando Florida and found roaches crawling across the bed. They initially said they couldn’t give me a refund me and stated that they can only move me to another room. Eventually they gave me the refund and we found another hotel. All this happened around 11pm. #disney #disneyworld #popcenturyresort #roach #disgusting @Disney @Disney Parks @DISNEY WORLD🐭🥰
She added that Disney cast members initially declined to issue a refund. “They initially said they couldn’t give me a refund me and stated that they can only move me to another room,” she wrote. “Eventually they gave me the refund and we found another hotel. All this happened around 11pm.”
In the video itself, she added, “I’m ready to go, we’re going to stay at the airport.”
Other TikTok users quickly pointed out that insects are common in Central Florida, especially at hotels with exterior walkways. “The doors into the rooms are on the outside, it’s Florida…” one user wrote. “There’s going to be bugs.”
Guests Report Other Bug-Related Incidents at Disney Hotels
The video’s comments also included reports of other insect issues during Disney Resort stays. One user wrote, “Stayed there last year. We had ants invade after 1 day and fruit flies everywhere.” Pop Century’s exterior-entry design has been frequently noted by guests sharing similar experiences online.
Earlier this year, multiple dead bugs were found stuck to the ceiling of another room at the same hotel. Other Disney properties have faced past concerns as well, including alleged bed bug incidents at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Disneyland Hotel at Disneyland Resort.
In 2022, Disney paid $100,000 to a guest who suffered bedbug bites while staying at the Disneyland Hotel. Guests have also reported seeing bed bug detection dogs at the Anaheim property, a practice mirrored at Disneyland Paris. In 2024, the Paris resort posted a job listing for a Bedbug Detector Dog Master to conduct “regular inspection of rooms, common areas, luggage storage in hotels or any other premises where the presence of bedbugs could be confirmed.”
Disney Cruise Line passengers have more recently shared bed bug complaints on Reddit, with several posts focused on incidents aboard the Disney Magic.
For Disney World hotel guests worried about potential bed bugs, experts typically recommend keeping luggage in the bathroom, at least when you first arrive, as this is where the pests are least likely to hide. Mattress seams, headboards, and bedside drawers can be checked using a phone flashlight, looking for reddish stains or small dark specks.
If anything looks suspicious, the safest step is requesting a room change — ideally to another floor to minimize the risk of a second round with your new bed bug pals — and avoiding unpacking until the replacement room has been thoroughly inspected.
