The Walt Disney Company has been churning out movies at a breakneck pace between Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and Disney Animation. This year alone, Walt Disney Studios is releasing The Little Mermaid (2023), Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (2023), Haunted Mansion (2023), Elemental (2023), Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), and The Marvels (2023), just to name a few.

Disney’s Wish

But one of the most anticipated films this year is Disney’s Wish (not to be confused with the cruise ship Disney Wish). Walt Disney Animation Studios officially released the first trailer for the original film yesterday, April 26. Check out the new trailer below:

A Return to Classic Disney Tropes?

Set to hit theaters on November 22, around the Thanksgiving holiday. Disney’s Wish tells the story of 17-year-old Asha, her pet goat Valentino, and Star, a celestial ball of energy. The movie will be exclusively available in theaters and, similar to previous Disney animated films of the past, will include classic Disney elements such as musical numbers, a talking animal sidekick, characters with magical powers, and a star-studded cast of voice actors.

Set to take place on the Iberian peninsula in the magical land of Rosas, the film will hopefully be a welcome addition to the library of Disney classics and introduce the world to a new cast of iconic characters.

Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Julia Michaels and Grammy-winning producer/songwriter/musician Benjamin Rice wrote the animated film’s original music, including the featured song “More For Us.” Starring in the film are the voice talents of Academy Award-winning actor Ariana DeBose as Asha, Alan Tudyk as the goat Valentino, and Chris Pine as the film’s villain, King Magnifico.

We’re looking forward to the fall of 2023 when Disney’s Wish hit theaters!

About Steven Wilk

Steven has a complicated relationship with Disney. As a child, he visited Walt Disney World every few years with his family. But he never understood why kids his age (and older) were so scared of Snow White or Alien Encounter. He is a former participant of the Disney College Program (left early…long story), and he also previously worked in Children’s publishing, where he adapted multiple Disney movies and TV shows. He has many controversial opinions about Disney…like having a positive view of Michael Eisner, believing Return of the Jedi is superior to The Empire Strikes Back, and that Toy Story Land and Galaxy’s Edge should have never been built (at least not at Hollywood Studios). Every year for the past two decades, Steven has visited either Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Aulani or went on a Disney Cruise. He’s happy to share any and all knowledge of the Disney destinations (and he likes using parenthesis a lot…as well as ellipses…)
