The 2022 D23 Expo is in full swing, and we have been thankful to be part of the magical event! As we attended the “Celebrate the Magic of Disney and Pixar” panel on September 9, 2022, we were amazed at all that is to come for Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

While we’ve previously shared the excitement and updates surrounding films such as Disenchanted, Mufasa, The Little Mermaid live-action, Inside Out 2, Haunted Mansion, and beyond… the show stopper of the event was the all-new animated feature film titled, Wish.

@DisneyD23 announced, “Walt Disney Animation Studios revealed a FIRST LOOK at “Wish,” their all-new animated feature film that explores how the iconic wishing star came to be.”

The post further notes, “Starring Ariana DeBose as Asha, directed by Chris Buck & Fawn Veerasunthorn, produced by Peter Del Vecho & Juan Pablo Reyes, and featuring all-new songs by Julia Michaels, Disney’s Wish releases in November 2023.”

Check out the two “first look” images in the tweet below:

The Disney fans in the D23 panel roared with excitement! As Wish was announced, the screens were filled with clips from classic Disney films, showing the many different characters across the years of Disney entertainment that were wishing for something more.

The iconic Disney song, “When You Wish Upon a Star,” from the classic film Pinocchio played in the background, and yes… it was a goosebumps moment!

But, what is the story of that bright wishing star in the sky? Disney is getting back to its classic animated film roots with this new film, Wish, to answer that very question.

The main character, Asha, a 17-year-old girl, wishes out to the stars for help and finds herself in the midst of a true wishing star named “Star.” In the panel, we were able to see the sweet interaction between Asha and Star.

Not only were we excited about the reveal of Asha and Star, but we also meet a character named Valentino… played by the great voice actor Alan Tudyk. Said to be Disney’s lucky charm in the film industry, Alan took to the stage and voiced past Disney character roles he fulfilled, such as King Candy (Wreck-It Ralph) and Hei-Hei (Moana).

In Wish, Alan will voice Valentino… an adorable goat. Once again, the panel Guests were able to see Valentino in action on the screen as he interacted with Star.

The film will be a musical which had the audience cheering, and Disney revealed the “Easter eggs” in this movie will go to “a whole new level.”

We didn’t want to panel to end, but it went out with a bang as the voice of Asha, Ariana DeBose, took to the stage and performed Wish‘s new hit song, “More For Us.” Her voice was outstanding. A true Disney star was born! And yes, the song was right on par with iconic Disney songs such as Frozen’s “Let It Go” and Beauty and the Beast’s “Tale as Old as Time.”

Wish is scheduled to debut as Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 2023 feature film. The release date has yet to be announced, but with the first views of the film, its characters, and the music… we believe a new incredible Disney classic is on the way.
