New! Details About The Upcoming Haunted Mansion Movie

Yesterday saw the first full day of the 2022 D23 Expo in Anaheim, California took place. The day closed with the Disney & Pixar Studio panel, which brought plenty of exciting news. Brand new trailers were revealed for upcoming films that had previously been confirmed, such as Disenchanted and Hocus Pocus 2, which is set to be premier on Disney+ later this month. The movie panel also showcased brand new projects that were released to the fans for the first time, including Elio and a sequel to the popular Pixar Animated Studios movie, Inside Out (2015).

Whilst news of a new Haunted Mansion movie isn’t new, D23 Expo Guests were treated to a secret trailer for the upcoming release of the movie into theatres in March 2023. The secret trailer shown on stage provided looks of the Mansion as well as sneaky cameos from famous faces, including Winona Ryder, Dan Levy and Hasan Minhaj, and hinted that a Bride will play a large part in the story.

Justin Simien, the director of the film, appeared onstage to talk about the upcoming movie release. He shared with fans that Haunted Mansion was his favorite ride in Disneyland, having worked there in the summer during his youth. As such, the move will be full of easter eggs from the ride, through a mixture of humour and “dark edge”.

To wrap up the showcase for the upcoming Haunted Mansion movie, Simien introduced a special Guest onstage, in none other than a Doom Buggy, the iconic ride vehicle that Guests occupy when taking a ride on the Haunted Mansion in Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Jamie Lee Curtis, who will play the role of Madame Leota, was indeed the occupier of the Doom Buggy. Joining Jamie Lee Curtis in the movie, is Jared Leto as the Hatbox Ghost, as well as Danny Devito and Owen Wilson.

The film is said to follow a doctor and her son who move into a mansion in New Orleans. They soon find out that they have more than they bargained for and enlist the help of ghost hunters to to chase spirits from the mysterious dwelling. as put by Justin Simien, the movie will be “heartfelt, funny and of course a but scary”.

We cannot wait to see the new Haunted Mansion movie, however we do wish that we didn’t have to wait so long to see it! Halloween would have been a perfect time for this movie to be released, right?
