“The Way” to Fly: Mando and Grogu are Taking Over the Millennium Falcon This Summer, as Disney Releases New Details

Since its debut in 2019, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers’ Run has been the ultimate playground for Star Wars fans. For years, we’ve been working for Hondo Ohnaka, chasing Coaxium canisters across the planet of Corellia. But let’s be honest: even the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy” was starting to feel a little like a repetitive commute.

That all changes on May 22, 2026. Following months of rumors, the first official signs of the “Mando-Verse” expansion have arrived at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. A brand-new attraction poster has been spotted, and it confirms what every Bounty Hunter in the Outer Rim has been hoping for: The Mandalorian and Grogu are joining the mission.

Here is the 101 on the biggest update to hit Black Spire Outpost since the First Order arrived.

The Bounty of the Century: A New Narrative

The hype reached a fever pitch this week when BlogMickey captured photos of the new attraction poster. The artwork is a masterpiece of cinematic hype, featuring Din Djarin and the adorable Grogu front and center, with the Millennium Falcon engaged in a dogfight in the background.

This isn’t just a simple cameo or a background easter egg. Disney is introducing a completely new mission storyline. While the specifics are still under wraps, the narrative shift moves the ride away from the Sequel Trilogy era and into the high-stakes “New Republic” timeline. Hondo Ohnaka is still your handler, but this time, the client is a man of few words and a very high-value foundling.

Unreal Technology: A Visual Revolution

The secret sauce behind this update isn’t just the characters; it’s the engine under the hood. Disney has officially integrated Unreal Engine (from Epic Games) into the attraction.

Why should you care about a software update? Because this is the same tech used to film the Mandalorian movie and TV show. In a theme park context, it means:

  • Cinematic Realism: The environments of new planets—rumored to include Nevarro and Tatooine—will look significantly sharper and more lifelike.
  • Responsive Gameplay: The lag between moving the pilot’s joystick and seeing the ship react is being virtually eliminated.
  • Dynamic Lighting: Every explosion and laser bolt will cast real-time shadows inside the cockpit.

Fixing the “Engineer” Problem

Let’s talk about the Elephant (or Bantha) in the room: the Engineer role. Traditionally, it was the “consolation prize” of the cockpit. However, Disney has hinted that the 2026 update will give Engineers and Gunners more to do.

With Grogu on board, the crew will likely be tasked with “protecting the asset.” Imagineers have teased interactive sequences where the Engineer might need to assist Grogu or divert power to specific shields to keep the Child safe during an Imperial ambush. It’s a way to make every seat in the cockpit feel like a “Main Character” moment.

Launching with the Legend: May 22, 2026

The timing of this update is a masterclass in synergy. May 22, 2026, is the same day that The Mandalorian & Grogu feature film hits theaters.

Disney is effectively turning Hollywood Studios into the global epicenter of the Star Wars fandom. You can catch the movie in the morning and then literally jump into the cockpit to live out the story in the afternoon.

Final Thoughts

The arrival of the new attraction poster is the “Initial Point” for a new era of Galaxy’s Edge. By breaking the strict timeline and embracing the most popular duo in the galaxy, Disney is giving fans exactly what they want: a reason to fly the Falcon again and again.

Are you ready to take the bounty? Just remember: Hondo doesn’t like scratches on his ship!
