Disney Teases the Return of This Classic Magic Kingdom Attraction

Lots of changes are in the works around the Walt Disney World Resort, and while new details have been revealed on some returning experiences like Fantasmic! and Blizzard Beach, fans are still waiting to learn about others.

In the Magic Kingdom specifically, construction has been ongoing on the TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction in Tomorrowland for some time (actually, for longer than the entire length of time it took to build the Park itself). In this case, Disney’s newest roller coaster is not the only attraction that has been impacted by its construction, and fans have continued to wait for an update on one other beloved attraction…

The Walt Disney World Railroad, a beloved attraction that takes Guests around the perimeter of the Park has been closed throughout the entirety of the construction on TRON Lightcycle / Run. While the Railroad does have multiple stations around the Park, on Main Street, U.S.A., Frontierland, and Fantasyland (within an easy walk to Tomorrowland), work on the new coaster caused the attraction to shut down where the tracks pass through the new TRON footprint.

Guests have been anxiously awaiting an update on the Railroad, with past announcements from Disney indicating that Cast Members have begun training to work on the attraction, and that the ride had started testing ahead of its reopening. Today, Disney once again teased the reopening of the classic Magic Kingdom ride by showing more testing currently underway on its official TikTok account:

Despite teasing fans with multiple testing updates, Disney has yet to confirm the reopening date for the Walt Disney World Railroad. The attraction is also currently not listed with operating hours on Disney’s website, which as of this writing runs through late December 2022.

We have learned that TRON Lightcycle / Run is set to open in the spring of next year, however, the Walt Disney World Railroad could reopen before the new attraction. The Tomorrowland Light & Power Co. gift shop, which also serves as the traditional exit to Space Mountain remains closed as well to prepare for the opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run.

In any case, we will continue to monitor updates on the Railroad, and will report back here on DisneyTips as we learn more. In the meantime, you may just spot the Walt Disney World Railroad testing if you visit the Park, and if you are lucky enough maybe (just maybe) you’ll even catch a soft opening!
