Disney Vacation Club Just Made a MAJOR Change to Its Member Points System

Disney’s “best kept secret” just got a little more exciting!

Disney Vacation Club has offered Guests an opportunity to “own a piece of the magic” since its debut in 1991. One of the major distinctions that sets Disney Vacation Club apart from other vacation timeshare programs is its flexibility.

Rather than tying Guests to a single property, Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members are issued points that they can use for stays at a number of Disney vacation experiences, including the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort, as well as trips with Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney, and more.

To make travel even more flexible, DVC members have historically been able to borrow points from the following year. Whether they used the extra points for a more extravagent stay or for a longer trip was ultimately up to them, but the ability to borrow points had been a game-changer for Guests planning their vacations.

When the travel industry as a whole began making adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, changes were made to the Disney Vacation Club point system that limited borrowed points to 50%. Guests who booked stays with more than 50% of the following year’s points on the reservation would need to cancel those trips and either purchase one-time use points or modify their plans to fit the points available within that threshold.

Today, Disney Vacation Club announced that the restrictions implemented at the start of the pandemic have ended, and that Guests are once again able to borrow from their full bank of upcoming points.

Theme park journalist Scott Gustin shared the email that DVC members are receiving regarding the update on Twitter:

This update is exciting news for DVC members planning Disney vacations as the ability to borrow the additional points offers the level of flexibility that truly sets the Disney Vacation Club apart.

This news also follows the opening of the latest Disney Vacation Club accommodations at Walt Disney World, located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. If you are ready to plan your next vacation with DVC points, you can check out the new rooms at the Grand Floridian in this post.
