A dream is a “Wish” your heart makes – as Cinderella sang in her eponymous movie.

And we have been wishing hard for a chance to take a dream vacation on Disney’s newest Cruise Line ship, the Disney Wish.

Back in April 2021, Disney revealed its newest cruise ship, the Disney Wish, would be joining its already incredible fleet.

The Disney Wish will be Disney’s most elegant cruise ship to date and will feature a number of brand new, one-of-a-kind experiences — including the first-ever “attraction at sea”, the Aquamouse, as well as a Frozen dining experience, and a gorgeous, enchanted forest-themed Walt Disney Theatre.

Now, though, it seems Guests will have to wait longer for the ship’s debut as Disney has delayed the maiden voyage of the Wish.

The Disney Wish was scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage on June 9, 2022, from Port Canaveral in Florida. Today, February 3, however, Disney Cruise Line emailed Guests booked on the first 12 voyages to say their trips were now canceled.

The trips affected were the maiden voyage, the following DVC sailing, and additional sail dates into July now that the Disney Wish will be delayed by six weeks.

The Meyer Werft shipyard notified Disney Cruise Line that despite their best efforts more time is needed to complete the new Cruise Line ship. The setback is due to the pandemic and the rampaging of the Omicron variant across Germany at a critical point in the production process.

Disney Cruise Line is therefore delaying the ship’s maiden voyage until July 14, 2022, and is reaching out to affected Guests to help them adjust their vacation plans.

The great news for these Guests is that they will now be able to choose an option of a 50% discount on a future cruise departing by December 31, 2023!

All Disney Cruise Line fans will know that 50% off a Disney Cruise is a huge deal, especially for a brand new ship.

Disney Cruise Line has moved Guests booked on the maiden voyage to the new debut sail date of July 14, while those on the June 14 DVC cruise are now on the July 19 DVC replacement date.

Thomas Mazloum, president of Disney Cruise Line, explained:

“We know how much our guests are looking forward to sailing on the Disney Wish, and we understand the disappointment and inconvenience this will cause. We treasure the relationship we have with those who sail and make memories with us, and we will work closely with those affected to welcome them aboard in the future.

Despite this unavoidable adjustment to our plans, our team at Disney Cruise Line has never been more optimistic about the future and cannot wait to welcome families aboard the magnificent Disney Wish.”

The impacted sailings for the Disney Wish are:

  • Thursday, June 9, 2022: 5-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Tuesday, June 14, 2022: 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral DVC Member Cruise
  • Friday, June 17, 2022: 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Monday, June 20, 2022: 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Friday, June 24, 2022: 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Monday, June 27, 2022: 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Friday, July 1, 2022: 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Monday, July 4, 2022: 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Friday, July 8, 2022: 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Monday, July 11, 2022: 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Friday, July 15, 2022: 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral
  • Monday, July 18, 2022: 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral

Because of the delay in production and building of the new ship, the Disney Wish’s sail date on July 22, 2022 will be the cruise where the sail dates stabilize and return to the previously scheduled course.
