One major part of planning any Walt Disney World vacation is securing dining reservations for all of your favorite restaurants. Assuming the restaurants you are hoping to dine at are available, making reservations is easy using the My Disney Experience app. But what happens if your plans change and you need to cancel?
For several years, Disney has limited Guests’ ability to make cancellations in the app, requiring them to call and cancel if it is too close to the time of their reservation. In the latest update to the My Disney Experience app, it seems this process has changed and it should be easier for Guests…

Following the latest update to the My Disney Experience app, Guests at Walt Disney World can now cancel reservations within two hours. Prior to this change, they would be prompted to call Disney directly, and if they did not cancel they would be charged $10 per person to their credit card on file.
Theme park reporter Scott Gustin spotted the change earlier today and shared the news on Twitter:
It appears you can now cancel dining reservations in the Walt Disney World app if it's at least 2 hours before your reservation.
I don't think this tweak impacts restaurants that require prepayment (Cinderella's Royal Table, etc.). pic.twitter.com/GmXUcYrmfo

As Gustin noted, this change does not seem to apply to any reservations that require Guests to pay in advance. There is one other small catch to this change, too. The My Disney Experience app is still undergoing maintenance through the end of the day today, Thursday, November 3, 2022.
With the app continuing to undergo maintenance it is not yet clear at this time if the change is a placeholder to help manage Guests’ requests while the app is updated, or if this is a permanent change. If the change is indeed permanent, Guests have already voiced concerns on social media that this could cause even more users to take up reservations they likely will not end up going to because it will be easier to cancel.
