Disney Springs at Walt Disney World

Disney Springs, once known as Downtown Disney, is now a must-visit destination at Walt Disney World Resort and a great way to get away from a Disney park. It blends vibrant entertainment, unique dining, and world-class shopping in one picturesque waterfront setting.

When it comes to dining, Disney Springs delivers an eclectic mix of options sure to please any palate. The culinary variety is astounding, from casual, family-friendly venues like T-Rex Café and Rainforest Café to foodie hotspots led by celebrity chefs such as Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ and Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill–not to mention the specialty cocktails, craft beers, and indulgent desserts that make the perfect nightcap after a day of shopping or park-hopping.

Entertainment is always in full swing, with live music echoing through the streets and unique experiences like Splitsville Luxury Lanes for bowling, the AMC Dine-In Theater, and the captivating Cirque du Soleil show Drawn to Life.

Disney Springs doesn’t require an entry ticket, making it an ideal spot to relax, dine, and enjoy a slice of Disney magic outside the theme parks–although crowds can sometimes feel heavier than Magic Kingdom on weekend nights. Whether you’re catching a concert, shopping for the latest Disney merchandise, or savoring a meal crafted by top chefs, Disney Springs promises something special for everyone.

And on September 29, 2024, it truly will be special at Disney Springs as Breaking Bad legends Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul–who played Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on the acclaimed AMC TV show for five seasons–will grace the Frontera Coccina Mexican restaurant for a culinary event.

The pair, who created the Dos Hombres Mezcal, will team up with Chef Rick Bayless for a special “once-in-a-lifetime” event at Frontera Cocina. The restaurant posted the news to Instagram earlier this week.

The massive Disney Springs transformation in 2015 brought new life to the area, with its design now inspired by Florida’s historic town centers and natural springs. Whether you’re browsing through Disney-themed treasures at the World of Disney (the largest Disney merchandise store in existence) or exploring stores like Coach, Zara, and Uniqlo–the latter having exclusive Disney apparel–the shopping experience is unparalleled.

Another prominent destination at Disney Springs is Gideon’s Bakehouse. The famed bakery—which sells giant chocolate chip-studded cookies, iced coffee, and mountainous cake slices—is so popular that a virtual queue is often implemented for guests wanting to get in on the baked goods action.

Recently, the Bakehouse came under fire after an Instagram account called Ghosts of Gideons @ghostsofgideons) claimed that the company had discriminatory views, unsafe working conditions, and unfair pay. The establishment contested the allegations in a series of social media posts.

Another controversy rocked Disney Springs this year after Disney park guest Kanokporn Tangsuan tragically died from allergies after eating at Raglan Road. A lawsuit has been filed by Kanokporn’s husband, Jeffrey Piccolo, which Disney has responded to.

Since May 24, 2024, Disney Springs has allowed guests to experience the nighttime spectacular magic often found in the likes of Magic Kingdom and EPCOT with Dreams That Soar!

Presented in the skies above the Springs, Disney described Dreams That Soar as “a one-of-a-kind, nearly 10-minute drone show.” The show ended on September 2 after running for almost four months.

About Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
