The Walt Disney World Resort has quietly updated one of its fan-favorite Magic Kingdom locations following intense scrutiny earlier this year.

Most Disney park fans know the resorts inside out. They know where to snag the best merchandise, where to find the best food (hello, Dole Whip), where to take the best Cinderella Castle shots, and where to find the best spots for parade and nighttime spectacular viewing. The list goes on.

Disney theme parks are more than just rides and attractions. Sure, e-ticket experiences like the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT and TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom Park are big draws for even the most casual Disney fan, but many long-time visitors are happy to scope out new additions to the parks or chow down on a Mickey ice cream bar while perusing Main Street, U.S.A.

It’s noticeable, then, when things go missing at the parks.

The Disney Experiences brand is in a constant state of evolution. If it’s not stripping out entire lands (so long, DinoLand, U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom) or retheming attractions (Lightning McQueen, we love you, but guests love the Villains more!), then Josh D’Amaro’s division is actively updating, refreshing, and banishing specific elements of the Disney experience.

And just over two months ago, banish they did.

Sleepy Hollow, the small food and beverage location nestled in Liberty Square near the Haunted Mansion, was once home to the famed and cherished waffle sandwiches. Offering both sweet and savory options, Sleepy Hollow was the perfect place to grab that not-quite-lunch-not-quite-dinner option.

Perhaps the most popular item at Sleepy Hollow was the Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich, which featured fresh berries and banana sandwiched inside a waffle with chocolate-hazelnut spread. As of June 2024, the waffle was gone, sparking a waffle scandal so large that it seems Disney has listened to it.

“The beloved gargantuan waffle–which combined chocolate-hazelnut spread, berries, and bananas on a freshly baked waffle–has gone for good and has instead been replaced with a standard Mickey waffle,” Inside the Magic originally reported in June. “This still comes with berries, but if you’re after bananas, you’ll have to order the Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread and Bananas separately, as the two are no longer combined in one offering.”

This was correct at the time; guests had to order two waffles to get bananas and berries or buy a side of whichever they needed. However, the Disney resort has ushered in a quiet update that reincarnates the banana and berry chocolate waffle.

While it is not a direct copy of the original Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich, the Mickey Waffle with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, Berries, and Whipped Cream is sure to tickle the tastebuds and banish any cravings for the sweet snack. The option is relatively similar, except it now features the immortal Mickey Mouse instead of a standard waffle shape.

The new offering is priced at $9.49 plus tax and can be seen on the official Walt Disney World Resort Sleepy Hollow menu here.

Guests can also buy other waffles and funnel cakes from Sleepy Hollow, as well as hand-dipped corn dogs and even a souvenir Princess Tiana sipper to celebrate the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure just down from Liberty Square in Frontierland.

Speaking of Frontierland—and unfortunately, Liberty Square—Disney is moving forward with the “Beyond Big Thunder” project and, as announced at D23 Expo 2024, will re-landscape Frontierland to accommodate a large-scale Cars franchise expansion.

To make way for Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the rest of Radiator Springs, Magic Kingdom will officially lose Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America (yes, including the Liberty Belle riverboat). This decision proved to be highly controversial in the eyes of fans who believe Disney World is losing its identity in favor of more IP implementation.

Also announced at this year’s D23, with an infinitely amount more fanfare than the return of the banana and berry waffle at Sleepy Hollow, was the company’s first-ever suspended coaster in an all-new Monsters, Inc. land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the confirmation that the Disney Villains will tread the roads of Magic Kingdom after all.

About Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his favorite TV show is Buffy the Vampire Slayer except when it's One Tree Hill. He loves sandy beach walks, forest hikes, and foodie days out in the Big City. Thomas lives in England, UK, with his fiancée, baby, and their dog, a Border Collie called Luna.
