After 71 Years, Disneyland Tears Down Sleeping Beauty Castle

Disneyland Resort’s 70th anniversary celebrations are winding down, and the towering Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture that has greeted guests in the esplanade between the two Southern California Disney parks for over a year is already coming apart.

Sleeping Beauty Castle Tribute Comes Down

On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that Disneyland Resort had begun dismantling the large-scale Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture built in the esplanade between Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park for the Disneyland70 anniversary celebration. The outlet shared a photo of the partially disassembled display, showing that the towers and roof had already been removed while other elements — including the golden archway and stained-glass details — remained in place. Teal blue construction walls now surround the former tribute.

The sculpture had been a centerpiece of the Disneyland70 celebrations since they launched on July 17, 2025. Each of the castle’s towers featured a flag and a decorative element inspired by one of Disneyland Park’s original lands — Frontierland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Adventureland, and Main Street, U.S.A.

A metal silhouette of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse was also part of the display, though it was replaced partway through the celebration period after many guests pointed out that Walt Disney’s hat made the figure look more like President Donald Trump than the founder of Disneyland Resort.

The Celebrations Continue Through August 9

The early removal of the Sleeping Beauty Castle sculpture doesn’t mean the Disneyland70 festivities are over. The anniversary celebration — which has included limited-time entertainment, attraction overlays, and exclusive merchandise across both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park — is scheduled to run through August 9, 2026.
