Disney has confirmed the permanent closure of a beloved Anaheim fixture.

Downtown Disney has been in a years-long state of transition, reshaping nearly every corner of the property. The west end has transformed with a new entrance, plus restaurants like Céntrico, Paseo, and Tiendita, a refreshed Jazz Kitchen (which wasn’t exactly popular with all fans), and the arrival of the Parkside Market dining concept and Din Tai Fung.

Former offerings, such as Tortilla Jo’s, have also shifted to make room for higher-demand dining and entertainment. Earlier this year, Disney Wonderful World of Sweets opened in place of the old Marceline’s Confectionery, with a string of new characters – Jimmi, Lolli, Fluffi, and Bonni – launched to accompany the store a couple of months later.

But the shopping and dining district’s transformation isn’t complete yet.

Today, Disney confirmed the sudden closure of another beloved location.

Disney Confirms End of Earl of Sandwich (For Now, At Least)

The Earl of Sandwich on the east side of Downtown Disney District will permanently close after business today, November 7.

The closure clears space for construction on the incoming Porto’s Bakery, which was first announced all the way back in 2022. While La Brea Bakery closed the following year to make way for the new store, construction didn’t immediately start.

NEW: The Earl of Sandwich on the east side of Downtown Disney District will permanently close after business today. The closure will allow for construction to begin on the upcoming Porto’s Bakery.

The pop-up Earl’s location near Star Wars Trading Post will remain open.

A smaller pop-up Earl of Sandwich location near the Star Wars Trading Post will remain temporarily open for guests.

A new two-story Earl of Sandwich is currently being built at the opposite end of Downtown Disney. The reimagined restaurant will include a new gastropub, Gordon Ramsay at The Carnaby. Disney has not announced an official opening date.

The table-service restaurant Earl of Sandwich Tavern, located beside the original east-side location, is also now closed. The shutdown was not announced in advance and happened today, likely surprising many frequent guests.

Both locations were previously slated to close earlier in 2025, but these closures were delayed.

Earl of Sandwich is known for hot carved sandwiches, soups, and salads, including fan favorites like the Holiday Turkey sandwich. The brand operates other locations at Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Village at Disneyland Paris, making it a recognizable dining name for many Disney travelers.
