Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District just made a surprise change, and it has some guests scratching their heads. A fan-favorite window display that once let visitors watch cast members crafting Disney’s signature sweets has suddenly been blacked out.
The show kitchen at Wonderful World of Sweets previously allowed guests to see behind the scenes as cast members decorated caramel apples and assembled other iconic Disney treats. But now, those windows are completely covered, blocking all views of the candy-making process from both the exterior and interior of the store.

No More Behind-the-Scenes Magic at Wonderful World of Sweets
Disney has yet to provide an official explanation for the change, but the timing is unexpected.
Wonderful World of Sweets just opened in January 2025, replacing Marceline’s Confectionery, a longtime staple of Downtown Disney. The store has quickly become a go-to spot thanks to its colorful aesthetic and impressive lineup of classic Disney confections.

Now, those hoping to watch cast members create the magic are met with blacked-out windows, including a covered door window that previously allowed for small glimpses inside. Unlike past Downtown Disney refurbishments, there are no signs of active construction, making it unclear whether this is a temporary adjustment or a more permanent shift in policy.
What’s Happening at Wonderful World of Sweets?
Despite the blocked windows, the rest of the store is operating as usual. Guests can still browse and purchase fan-favorite Disney treats, including churro toffee, hand-dipped caramel apples, Mickey-shaped rice krispie treats, and the much-loved Werther’s Original Caramel popcorn—yes, the same kind that generates those long lines at EPCOT’s Germany pavilion.
The store’s bright and whimsical design remains intact, but the blacked-out windows contrast sharply with the vibrant, rainbow-colored aesthetic. Given the popularity of Disney’s candy kitchens and the nostalgic appeal of watching cast members at work, we assume this change is only temporary.
