PHOTO: EPCOT’s Newest Beacon of Magic Commemorates Everyone’s Favorite Dragon

Walt Disney World Resort truly is the Most Magical Place on Earth, from Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom, to Hollywood Studios, to EPCOT. To commemorate its 50th anniversary, the Walt Disney Company created the Most Magical Celebration on Earth.

As a part of this 16-month-long celebration, the iconic landmarks from each Disney Park have been lit up with something called a Beacon of Magic.

Magic Kingdom’s beautiful Cinderella Castle, Animal Kingdom’s stunning Tree of Life, Hollywood Studios’ thrilling Tower of Terror, and EPCOT’s inspiring Spaceship Earth have each been lit up by a Beacon of Magic. Each light show is unique to Disney Park’s themes while featuring the same magical color palettes to celebrate Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th anniversary.

For example, Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle’s beacon is categorized by a “dazzling glow that sparkles with pixie dust.” Animal Kingdom’s Tree of Life includes a “warm and glorious light” as well as “enchanted fireflies” which work together to “call forth the magic of nature.”

The Tower of Terror is lit up to “evoke the glimmer and shimmer of the golden age.”

Over in EPCOT, “Lights shine from within Spaceship Earth’s reflective panels as stardust emerges to symbolize beacons of possibility and optimism.” But today marks some changes in EPCOT’s Beacon of Magic, giving it a more…imaginative look.

Brook Geiger McDonald, a Disney and theme park journalist, has reported that EPCOT will be debuting an entirely new Beacon of Magic tonight, inspired by Figment and imagination. McDonald follows up this Tweet with another that reads, “The segment is new but Will include ‘Rainbow Connection.’”

If you’re visiting EPCOT soon, you may have a chance to see this imaginative Beacon of Magic!
