Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain is one of the most popular rides at Disney’s Animal Kingdom offering Guests a thrilling journey through the Forbidden Mountain to come face-to-face with the Yeti. During this high-speed, backwards and forwards journey, Guests are treated to incredible views of the Disney Park (and Walt Disney World in general) as well as some immersive theming as they make their way through the attraction.
This attraction has already undergone a refurbishment this year where the ride closed in January and reopened to Guests in April. As a result, we would not have expected Expedition Everest to have another refurbishment on the calendar, but it seems like a possibility as construction permits were recently filed for the ride.

Earlier this year, Expedition Everest remained closed from January 4, 2022 to April 16, 2022 (which was longer than Disney has originally planned.) While this refurbishment was part of the regularly scheduled maintenance for the attraction, with permits filed for work on Expedition Everest it is possible that an additional closure is coming.
The permits will “Provide labor, material and/or electrical for construction,” and as such are considerably vague. On top of this, Disney has not confirmed that another closure will take place at the attraction, so perhaps this upcoming work is taking place away from Guest areas and the ride will still be able to operate.
Unfortunately there is no way to confirm the nature of the work until Disney finalizes construction plans, so in the meantime, we recommend riding Expedition Everest during your next trip to the Disney Park just in case it is closed on your following visit.
Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain is described as:
After a steep ascent, your train picks up speed and races into the darkness. Without warning, a broken and twisted track appears in front of you. Brace yourself as you plummet backward into total darkness. Inside the cavern, the mythical tale comes true as you see the shadow of a massive, growling beast!
We will keep you updated here on DisneyTips with any upcoming refurbishments scheduled for Expedition Everest, and other attractions around Walt Disney World.
