We FINALLY Have a Return Date for Disney’s Beloved Fantasmic!

It’s been the biggest question on every Disney fans’ lips – when is Fantasmic! returning?

Fantasmic! has been missing from the Parks ever since they reopened following pandemic closures back in 2020.

Fantasmic! is one of Disney’s most beloved shows, featuring characters like Mickey Mouse, Ariel, Maleficent, Tinker Bell, and more. Disney Guests everywhere are missing the magical spectacle that is Fantasmic!, but it looks like we now have the news we’ve been waiting for!

Back in November 2021, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Josh D’Amaro revealed that Fantasmic! will be returning to both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland in Anaheim in 2022.

The popular nighttime spectacular Fantasmic! will return with new sequences, pyrotechnics, and Disney magic after a long closure during the pandemic.

Well (drumroll please) on May 28, 2022, Fantasmic! will be making its return to Disneyland Park!

We are not sure when the official return of Fantasmic! will be at Walt Disney World, but we expect an announcement shortly.

May 28 is going to be a huge day at Disneyland, with Disney fans celebrating throughout the Park when Mickey’s imagination comes alive again. We can expect that day in Disneyland to be packed, the first showing of Fantasmic! to be full hours before the performance, and the crowds’ cheers to be heard from miles around.

The Fantasmic! lagoon at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been drained for over a year, with the nighttime spectacular undergoing some major refurbishments during its pandemic closure.

While the moat surrounding the stage area was drained, Walt Disney World maintenance teams updated the rigging and technology. Recently shared aerial photos of the Fantasmic! area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios showed that the moat had been refilled.

Fantasmic! opened in Walt Disney World in 1998, after originating at Disneyland in 1992. The nighttime show was also previously at Tokyo DisneySea at Tokyo Disney Resort. It features fireworks, characters, live actors, water effects, pyrotechnics, decorated boat floats, and mist screen projections.

Fantasmic! takes Guests on a journey through Mickey Mouse’s imagination that culminates in a battle against the Disney Villains. The Florida version of the show takes place at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater next to The Tower of Terror, while Disneyland’s Fantasmic! occurs on the Rivers of America.

This year when the show returns to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, new characters will be joining Mickey in his imagination. The show will see characters and scenes from Disney’s Moana (2016), Frozen (2013), and Aladdin (1992).

In other exciting news, on April 22, 2022, the Main Street Electrical Parade and Disneyland Forever fireworks will return to Disneyland Park. And over at Disney California Adventure Park, World of Color will make its big return!

Disney also announced that more entertainment will return to Walt Disney World this year, including the Festival of Fantasy parade and Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ version of Fantasmic!, following the debut of Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom and Harmonious at EPCOT.
