Walt Disney World may be “the Most Magical Place on Earth,” but part of keeping the magic of Disney Parks and Resorts alive depends on Guests’ ability to follow Park rules. On the same note, Disney Cast Members work hard to stay courteous to Guests, even in tense situations, all as part of creating magical experiences for everyone in the Parks. Unfortunately, even Disney Parks can fall victim to tense situations that seem to be on the rise.

Disney Parks have had the same dress code policies in place for several years, but only recently have these rules been causing difficulties and sometimes altercations for Guests. In the latest incident, a Guest who was told that their son was out of dress code, and therefore could not ride an attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, was caught on camera taking frustrations out on a Cast Member.

TikTok user @minnieearsmagic caught the interaction on video:

@minnieearsmagic

I don’t go out of my way to film guest behaving badly, but I happen to be filming content. Guest behavior has gotten worse. Maybe it’s entitlement, maybe it’s the Florida Hades heat ?, I don’t know, but please, stop yelling at CM ?. Oh, and #haveamagicalday❤️?

In the video, it seems the Guests’ son was unable to ride Kali River Rapids because he was only wearing a bathing suit and shirts are part of the required dress code at Disney Parks.

Disney’s dress code is listed under Property Rules on both the Resort’s official website and the My Disney Experience app, which notes:

Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. Ensuring that the parks are family-friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense. Inappropriate Attire Disney reserves the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that is considered inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests.

Kali River Rapids is certainly a challenge for Guests as the attraction nearly guarantees that riders will get wet, if not completely soaked, especially as raft completes its final 25-ft. drop. Still, Disney’s dress code requirements apply to all areas of theme parks and resorts. As such, many Guests opt to bring a change of clothes for water rides like Kali River Rapids, or during the summer months, they assume they will dry soon enough with the heat.

Most of Disney’s recent dress code incidents are the result of Guests not realizing that tops held together with strings are not allowed in a Disney theme park for safety reasons. While the mention of strings specifically is not listed on Disney’s website, there was previously a TikTok trend where Guests would purposefully wear inappropriate tops to score a “free shirt.” With so many Guests taking advantage of this service recovery, Disney later changed the policy and no longer gives Guests shirts.

Whatever issues may arise during a Disney trip, we cannot stress enough the importance of taking appropriate action when speaking to Cast Members. Disney Cast Members only want to help you and they have their own sets of rules to follow (that they do not make) to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable visit.

Guests who experience something negative during their trips, should continue to be respectful to Cast Members who are simply doing their jobs. And, if they are still unsatisfied, Guest Relations Cast Members are located by the entrance of every Disney Park to help.
